Jaguar Cars introduces the Concept Speedboat

Article by Christian A., on November 3, 2012

Jaguar Cars has introduced ‘The Concept Speedboat by Jaguar Cars’ at the international driving debut of the new Jaguar XF Sportbrake. This one-of-a-kind concept demonstrates Jaguar’s design DNA in a package that’s outstanding and totally unexpected. This project to build the Concept Speedboat is headed by Jaguar Director of Design, Ian Callum.

He said that Jaguar knows that its current customers as well as potential ones have lifestyles that are diverse and active. He explained that when the new Jaguar XF Sportbrake was set to be launched, they saw a chance for its design philosophy to be used on an alternative product. He said that the Concept Speedboat exudes power and has the features of a traditional speedboat but with a Jaguar car’s characteristics of sleekness and speed.

In developing the Concept Speedboat, Jaguar Cars consulted with a yacht design specialist and a bespoke design project management firm. The Concept Speedboat has a gel coat fibreglass hull finished on top with a natural teak decking.

This is divided by a carbon fibre fin, which took inspiration from the iconic Jaguar D-Type. It’s seamless how the front of the boat flows into the screen. In addition, the red 2+1 cabin takes after the sportiness of Jaguar cars. Fuel filler caps inspired by the Series 1 XJ represent another nod to the heritage of Jaguar Cars. We know how the boat can be powered and docked via the imitation of its polished aluminium propeller and pop-up mooring post.

With its smart powertrain choices, the Jaguar XF Sportbrake is firm in its goal to emphasize both the athletic and practical aspects of its personality. Equipped exclusively with Jaguar’s collection of 2.2L four-cylinder and V6 3.0L diesel engines, the Sportbrake delivers an impeccable mixture of sophistication, fuel economy, reduced emissions, and power.

For less emissions and enhanced fuel consumption, the Jaguar XF Sportbrake delivers an impressive performance and greater driving appeal with its eight-speed gearbox, four-cylinder 2.2L engine and the brand’s own Intelligent Stop-Start technology. The moment when the Sportbrake is brought to a stop, a set of parameters are evaluated and checked automatically and the engine shuts down when the conditions are met.

The Twin Solenoid Starter subsequently reignites the engine in an instant within a shorter time needed for the driver to move its foot from the brake pedal to the accelerator. This innovative system also allows the engine to restart quickly even at the rundown phase to give the driver an opportunity to use a traffic gap at an intersection, for instance. This feature is referred to as the “change of mind” functionality.

Featured in all models, the twin-turbo 3.0L V6 engine of the Jaguar is provided in two tuning states which are both paired to a similar eight-speed gearbox that gives exceptional driver control through paddles mounted in the steering wheel. The premium ‘S’ model produces 600 Nm (442 lb.-ft.) of torque and 275 PS (202 kw), thus granting every enthusiast’s driving wish.

All units of the Jaguar XF Sportbrake are equipped with the standard, self-levelling air suspension at the posterior portion to substitute the coil springs installed in the saloon. This configuration is developed and created by the company’s chassis designers and engineers to keep the vehicle level even if it’s fully laden while maintaining the same dynamic characteristics in relation to handling and ride of the saloon and offering identical linear responses.
