Jaguar announced that the popular XF will get a new version of the 2.2-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine delivering 163 PS. For those who don’t know, the model is based on the 190 PS model which crossed the United States averaging 62.9 mpg. The new Jaguar XF model will have a price tag of £29,950 OTR, but despite its price it will feature an extensive range of standard equipment such as suedecloth and leather seats, a touch screen centrally mounted display, electronic climate control and an advanced 8-speed gearbox complete with automatic Stop-Start.
According to the British manufacturer owned by Indian group Tata Motors, the new 2012 Jaguar XF 2.2D 163 PS can hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in 9.8 seconds and has a maximum speed of 130 mph or 210 km/h.
On the combined cycle this model can achieve an impressive fuel consumption of 52.3 mpg and it emits 149 g/km of CO2. Market debut will be made in March but Jaguar dealers are already taking orders. If you are disappointed by this model, you can choose the XFR version powered by a supercharged 5.0-litre V8 engine producing a mighty 510 PS.
Looking at the Jaguar XF’s cabin, having premium materials presented in a modern manner gives it that style and welcoming atmosphere that one would spend time in. This is felt whether sitting on the passenger seat or the driver seat. In addition to having a complete revision, the interior has elements that can surprise and delight like the Jaguar Drive Selector. What happens is that when the driver presses the starter button, this feature goes up from the center console with the air vents rotating to get to the open position.
Cutting-edge technology is fitted inside the Jaguar XF like the new three audio systems. Compared to the previous versions, these ones reveal an important upgrade. The best of these three systems is the one made by Bowers & Wilkins, audio experts from Britain. With a power of 1,200 watts and a premium 17-speaker set-up, it comes out with sound similar to those heard in a concert hall.
Additionally, the different audio systems can have the satellite navigation system which is hard-drive based. The audio systems even integrate a virtual CD multi-change that can allow 10 CDs to be ripped at the same time. This can then be stored on the car’s memory and then played as if one was using a physical music medium. The audio systems also have a number of features like allowing for MP3 players to be connected.
There are even two USB ports where one is specifically for use of an iPod. Finally, with Bluetooth connectivity, music can be played through streaming using a smartphone. Indeed, the Jaguar XF has inside an astounding extent of technology. However as expected from Jaguar, all of these different technologies have been effortlessly integrated to the car’s function.
This is then controlled through a 7-inch touchscreen in the center and with the addition of a polarizing filter, ensures enhanced contrast viewing. To make sure that the workload of the driver is decreased, extra switches have been placed just under the touchscreen. With this, the driver can shift immediately between the various functions and the new graphics can help as well given that it was inspired by the XJ, the brand’s flagship model.
Since the main instrument cluster now has a TFT unit in full color, it allows for better clarity and resolution. Though Jaguar did redesign the seats of the XF, for the front and rear, the backrest and squab now have a hoop feature integrated to it.
This not only enhances the look but since it increases the profile of the seat, improves support as well. By making available new color combinations, as well as new headlining and new veneers, the personalization options for customers are increased. Jaguar also made changes to the color scheme on the steering wheel, fascia, and center console, which benefit all the models. For example instead of a Tungsten finish, there is now a more modern Aurora theme.
