Jaguar will debut its new sports crossover in 2016

Article by Christian A., on April 1, 2014

Back in September, at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA), Jaguar launched the C-X17 a.k.a. a concept car that previewed its upcoming SUV. Set to take on rivals such as the Porsche Macan, Jaguar’s new SUV will use the same basic aluminum architecture as the upcoming 2015 Jaguar XE mid-sized sedan that was previewed last month at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show.

Internally, the new Jaguar is dubbed as a sports crossover and will be the second model in company’s biggest new-model offensive. The British company now owned by Tata Motors aims to sell over 200,000 units per year. Apparently, sales will be boosted as Jaguar aims to attract younger and more cosmopolitan buyers, according to company’s global marketing director Steven de Ploey.

Jaguar wants to attract more women buyers but also customers with young families. Powering the new Jaguar sports crossover will be the Igenium four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines used by Land Rover. Currently, we don’t know if the crossover will be offered with rear-wheel drive or will come as standard with all-wheel drive.

Comparing it with the Porsche Macan, which is based on the Audi Q5 architcture, the new crossover from Jaguar is expected to be longer than its German rival and feature a much less of a coupe profile. Jaguar will fit the engine further back in the nose for a better weight distribution. Moreover, it will also be lighter than the Porsche Macan’s 1,865 kg, thanks to the use of all-aluminum architecture.

Jaguar designed and engineered the new F-Pace performance crossover to deliver a sensible marriage of agility, refinement and responsiveness typical of a Jaguar vehicle and of the dynamics and everyday versatility of a crossover.

Underpinned by Jaguar's Lightweight Aluminum Architecture, the new Jaguar F-Pace has a seamless fusion of purity of line, surface and proportion with a number of F-Type-inspired features like fender vents, characteristic rear light graphics as well as dynamic rear haunches.

Meanwhile, the new Jaguar F-Pace is defined up front by a muscular bonnet and a bold front grille, both indicating how powerful it is inside, with powerplant choices including a 380-PS supercharged V6 engine. Likewise, the new F-Pace comes with a number of elements derived from Jaguar C-X17 concept like its slender full-LED headlights, short front overhang and forged 22-inch wheels.

As designed, the new Jaguar F-Pace is large enough to comfortably accommodate five occupants, with the interior making use of premium materials and finishes as well as delicate detailing. The interior is also filled with a number of technological luxuries and features like the heated, electrically reclining rear seats, InControl Touch Pro infotainment system and its 12.3-inch HD virtual instrument cluster.

Ian Callum, Director of Design at Jaguar, remarked that by staying faithful to the brand’s design principles, they were able to make F-Pace instantly recognizable as a Jaguar. He noted that the new F-Pace is designed to deliver the expected interior space. He added that the F-Pace could be the most balanced and most attractive vehicle in its class thanks to Jaguar’s disciplined approach to the purity of line, surfaces and proportions.
