Kia Motors America will broadcast its ad titled “Space Babies” on Feb. 3 in the fourth quarter of Super Bowl XLVII. Over 100 million viewers will be listening in as a father talks to his young son about where babies came from while driving his new 2014 Sorento CUV. “Space Babies” is directed by Jake Scott and discusses how a planet known as “Babylandia” sends off infant boys and girls as well as puppies and baby pandas to Earth to join their new families.
It’s cute how this kid has another theory and starts to talk to his dad about it. Fortunately, the father was able to easily change the subject by mentioning UVO’s voice-activated jukebox feature.
Michael Sprague, executive vice president, marketing & communications, KMA, said that in the last three years, the automaker has reaped the rewards of attempting to raise awareness and brand perception by advertising at the Super Bowl, the “marketing event of the year.” He further described “Space Babies” as giving a fun look at the challenges and adventures of parenting as well as showing how the Sorento’s technologies and features can make it easier to get through the day.
Available in LX, EX and SX trim levels, the new Kia Sorento’s assertive stance and sleek profile are highlighted by the new signature grille and wraparound headlamps found on all new Kia models. The front end is marked by a rounded nose, a number of swept-back lines, an angled window line as well as large flared-back headlamps and prominent fog lamps. The rear end, meanwhile, comes with a rounded tail lamps set within the rear lift gate.
As standard, the new Kia Sorento rides on 17-inch alloy wheels as wrapped in 235/65R17 tires. It also features, heated outside mirrors with integrated LED turn signal indicators as well as body-color wheel moldings. When the EX trim is availed, the Sorento receives an 18-inch five-spoke hyper finish wheel wrapped in 235/60R18 tires. This trim level also offers fog lamps and roof rails, as well as a rear spoiler.
EX trims powered by V6 engines could be availed with the optional panoramic sunroof. Meanwhile, the SX trim is provided with more refined details like mirror-finish 10-spoke 18-inch alloy wheels, body-color wheel well molding and chrome-tip exhaust. This trim level also includes stainless steel under bumper trim accents and step pad. The front and rear bumpers are finished in body color. Completing the features of the new Kia Sorento are LED rear lamps.
Inside, the Kia Sorento could be configured to allow for seating for five or seven passengers. This level of versatility is one of the best in the compact CUV segment, especially if such configurations allow for a spacious cabin with ample head and legroom as well as cargo space. For instance, the five-seat seat configuration would allow the new Sorento to boast of 142.5 cubic feet of interior volume and 37 cubic feet of cargo space. The seven-seat configuration, meanwhile, would allow the vehicle to offer 149.4 cubic feet of interior volume.
