As part of its 50th anniversary, Automobili Lamborghini will be unveiling during the 2013 Shanghai Auto Show a super sports car that is not only very special but also comes with the most exclusive of technology and equipment. Dubbed as the Lamborghini Aventador LP720-4 50th Anniversary, this will be a numbered and limited edition with only 100 units expected to be manufactured around the world. The company revealed that each model of this limited edition will have a serial number, 50° logo, and the Forged Composite badge.
This model range has long experienced success on a worldwide basis and this anniversary edition serves as the highlight. It has the permanent all-wheel drive, fitted with a twelve-cylinder engine, and has a carbon-fiber monocoque. Lamborghini revealed that the twelve-cylinder 6.5-liter engine has had its output increased. Specifically it is now at 720 hp, higher by 20 hp when compared to the V12 engine inside the current Aventador LP700-4.
This improvement was achieved by implementing specific engine calibration. With the engine paired to the ISR transmission, which allows for fast shifts, this allows the anniversary edition to reach maximum speed of 350 km/h and go from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds. The 720 hp output is not the only thing that was enhanced.
For instance, the design of both the front and the rear is now geared more towards performance. Special paintwork has been used with the interior having a more distinct trim. All of these combine to guarantee that this Aventador will be the company’s most exclusive model produced in its long history. In addition to being redesigned, the front and the rear fascias of the anniversary edition has had its aerodynamic features optimized.
Take for example the air intakes in the front and the aerodynamic splitter. Both have been extended and made larger with small flaps placed on the sides. New as well is the design of the rear section. Among others, the diffuser is now larger with the expansive meshwork ensuring that the ventilation of the engine compartment is enhanced. Further, the handling stability was optimized, especially at extreme speeds, with the drag qualities being affected.
The main reason is that when compared to the Aventador LP700-4, the efficiency of the Aventador anniversary edition is better by at least 50%. As mentioned, new paintwork was developed for this version and this is the Giallo Maggio (May Yellow). This color was selected because it honors the color that is the most preferred by many customers of the brand ever since the release of the Miura. It also serves to reference the time when Automobili Lamborghini was founded back in 1963. This all-new exclusive color comes with that intense glitter effect and will be offered solely for the limited edition.
Aside from that sparkling yellow, the paintwork has a structure that shows a layer of particles that are highly reflective and transparent. Because of this, the Aventador anniversary edition is able to sparkle especially under the sun. Looking at the exterior, the front, the sills, and the rear come in a two-tone motif of Giallo Maggio paired with matte black. This combination ensures that the streamlined form of this model is highlighted. The combination is complemented with the wheels as it comes in high-gloss black.
Even then, Lamborghini revealed that customers can have their anniversary edition come in various colors. This can be done through the individualization program known as Ad Personam. On the interior, the upholstery comes in semi-aniline, natural, and fine leather. Developed exclusively for the Aventador LP720-4 50th Anniversary, the leather has undergone a specific tanning and coloring method.
Through this process, the various qualities of the leather are highlighted, which include smoothness, natural look, and full grain. For the inside, the colors being made available are based on the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy, the site of the brand’s official home. An example of this is Nero Ade, a type of black, which is then mixed with a shade of brown called Terra Emilia.
This particular mix brings to mind the earth of the Italian region mentioned and gives this model a rather exclusive positioning. For those not interested in this, customers can choose to have Giallo Quercus. This is a yellow shade which not only complements the color of the exterior but also accentuates the athletic characteristic of this vehicle.
The name itself is based on the yellow oak tree that is featured in the coat of arms of Sant'Agata Bolognese. Regardless what color is chosen, the two will include the exclusive Q-Citura stitch. This is a diamond pattern and created for this special edition. It highlights the craftsmanship Italians are known for, seen in the interior of this anniversary offering from the brand.
