We have seen some pretty cool taxis around before. They may not be common, but we know they exist. It might be a retro Cadillac, perhaps an open-top Range Rover Evoque, or a Ford Crown Victoria. And now, the Lamborghini Huracan? Yup, it is now the world’s fastest taxi.
The Huracan has a 5.2 liter naturally aspirated V10 engine with a maximum power output of 610 horsepower and a maximum torque of 560 Newton-metres. In just 3.8 seconds, it can run from 0-100 kilometers per hour, with a top speed of 322 kph.
Now, how is this possible, you ask? A UK-based taxi company called Handsome Cabs was able to receive a license from their local council to run a Lamborghini Huracan as a taxi, for restricted use only. So Lincoln residents can finally hire the supercar to get to the mall, parties, prom night, business meeting, and other special occasions. However, it is more likely that residents would hire the car for special events only as it will probably be a little pricey.
After being granted with the license, the Lincoln Council even posted a photo of the Lambo Huracan on their social media with the caption saying: “Not your average cab - we’ve granted @HandsomeCabs a private hire licence for a Lamborghini!”, with a hashtag “SuperCab”. Councillor Cath Brothwell, chairman of the council’s licensing committee said that “People will be used to seeing cars like this in The Fast and Furious, but not so much on Firth Road and Flaxengate”, she then wishes the company good luck.
The company was established between John Bishop and Jamal Pervez, and both men thought that having a supercar in their lineup would make them stand out from the regular black taxis, and Uber. However, the tariff for a ride in the Huracan has not been decided just yet. Also, the car will not be available for hire just yet, but it should be after six weeks.
This supercar will ensure that you’ll never be late for your meeting. In fact, it might get you there in half the time. But one thing that may not be of convenience to some people is that the Huracan can only accommodate one person - that’s the one beside the driver’s seat.
Though this is the first and fastest supercar ever to take its passengers around town, it is not that first time the Huracan has done public service. The Italian Police use a Lamborghini Huracan as their highway patrol vehicle. Fancy, huh?
A lot of people include owning a supercar on their bucket lists, but not everyone gets their hands on one. For those people, you don’t have to buy one anymore, since hiring one is finally a possibility - at least for the lucky residents of Lincoln, England.
