Lamborghini Reventon to be auctioned off in Phoenix, Arizona on January 19

Article by Christian A., on January 18, 2017

The bidding war for one of the only 20 examples -- 21 actually, but the 00 version went to a museum -- of the classically beautiful Lamborghini Reventon built and sold nearly a decade ago is about to start tomorrow.

As you could have guessed, this Lamborghini Reventon is one of the prized lots being put under the hammer by auction house RM Sotheby’s during its Arizona sale on January 19, 2017. In fact, RM Sotheby’s expect this ultra-rare Lamborghini Reventon to be sold at a very high price ranging between $1 million and $1.4 million, although it won’t surprise us if it the final auction price went beyond expectations. This price is only appropriate if we look at the credentials of this model.

First of all, the Reventon is a rare Lamborghini, because of the very small numbers built (20). Moreover, this is the third (Chassis # ZHWBU77SX8LA03148 and Serial # 03/20) of the 20 examples that were built. Since only 20 examples were produced, each example fetched a very high price of around EUR1 million when the Reventon was launched.

Second, this No. 3 Reventon has only registered around 1,000 miles on its odometer, which means that this particular example is in nearly new condition. The winning bidder essentially bought a new Lamborghini Reventon.

Technically derived from the Lamborghini Murcielago LP640, the Lamborghini Reventon was named after a fighting bull owned by the Don Rodriguez family. This bull is known for causing the death of the famous bullfighter Felix Guzman in 1943. Its design was inspired by modern aeronautics, specifically that of the F22 Raptor that is considered one of the fastest and most agile planes in the world.

This is evident on the Reventon’s interrupted lines and contorted surfaces that help create an aggressive design. The front end is defined by the central arrow’s acute angle and by the dynamic forward-facing air intakes.

The exterior of all 20 Reventon examples is wrapped in a color also named Reventon, which is basically a mid opaque green/grey without the typical shine. This color tone features metallic particles that help provide the needed depth. Meanwhile, the interior is defined military-green Alcantara, aluminum, carbon fiber and black leather.

Serving as the core of the Lamborghini Reventon is the same engine that powers the Murcielago LP640, although uprated – a classic 6.5-liter V12engine that delivers 650 hp (478 kW) of output at 8,000 rpm and 660 Nm of torque. This V12 engine allows the Reventon to sprint from zero to 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds, and achieve a top speed of over 340 km/h.

RM’s January auction will be held at the Arizona Biltmore, Phoenix, Arizona in January 19 and 20, 2017.
