Land Rover Defender Africa Limited Edition makes its debut

Article by Christian A., on August 24, 2014

Land Rover has just announced the Defender Africa, a new edition limited that will be available globally. The bad news is that Land Rover will only produce 50 units of the Defender Africa Edition so if you really want one you’d better call your dealer as soon as possible.

According to the manufacturer, the Special Edition Defender marks over 67 years of boldly going where no other vehicle has gone before. As you can see from the photos, the Defender Africa features a Santorini Black finish and a red roof which takes its inspiration from Africa.

Complementing the exterior are the black saw tooth alloy wheels and Defender Africa decal. The interior shows black seat covers with red piping and the vehicle is offered with Bluetooth telephone connection.

As an option, the Defender Africa Limited Edition comes with snorkel, roof rack, rear step, bumper caps and a front protection bar. The company will offer the Land Rover Defender Africa as Defender 90 and 110 models.

The Defender comes with a 2.2-liter four-cylinder diesel engine, bolted to a 6-speed manual transmission. As a result, it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 15.8 seconds, while top speed is limited at 145 km/h or 90 mph.

Customers who want to further personalize or upgrade their Land Rover Defender units would be delighted with the addition of three new options and two new body colors (Barolo Black and Havana).

They could also choose a new premium seat design and upgraded in-car entertainment for their Land Rover Defender. Also available are four new contrast roof colors for further personalization choices.

The latest iteration of the Land Rover Defender now includes the addition of an EU5 2.2-liter diesel engine, ventilated discs as well as a number of interior refinements. The 'S' and 'SE' trim levels of the Defender also received new option packs. Fleet customers who wanted to control their fuel costs could avail any of the three speed-limiting options.

John Edwards, Land Rover Global Brand Director, remarked that they boosted the appeal of the Land Rover Defender by giving customers more opportunity to enhance driving comfort and to personalize their rides with an array of contrast roof colors. He added that the new powerful 2.2-liter diesel engine further gives the new Defender the capability to go anywhere. Overall, Edwards noted, the new Defender has retained the rugged appeal that it has been famous for while delivering greater customer choice.

For the 2012 model year, the new Land Rover Defender adds new option packs, in addition to the 'S' and 'SE' trim levels. Land Rover is giving customers a chance to enhance the looks, comfort and versatility of their Defender units through three more options and two new body colors.
