Land Rover Scott Expedition polar challenge has commenced

Article by Anita Panait, on November 1, 2013

The world record-breaking polar challenge to reach the South Pole, The Scott Expedition, has started! Ben Saunders -- Land Rover Global Brand Ambassador and Polar explorer -- and Tarka L’Herpiniere left their starting point at Scott’s Hut, Antarctica on October 28, 2013, to cross a total of around 1,800 miles from the edge of the continent to the South Pole and back.

The challenge will be the longest unsupported polar journey ever and will be first completion of Captain Scott’s ill-fated 1910-12 Terra Nova expedition. Land Rover is a co-presenting partner of The Scott Expedition, which offers challenges that would test capability and rugged quality of the Land Rover’s brand.

Saunders has been preparing for the expedition in his Land Rover Discovery, which has allowed him to train in hard-to-reach places in the United Kingdom, Europe and Greenland. Saunders also prepared for the expedition by training at Jaguar Land Rover’s Cold Climate Chamber, which is considered as an integral part of the development of all JLR products.
