Leaked: 2014 Skoda Rapid Spaceback makes early debut

Apparently, Skoda has a few problems with its web designers as its latest model, the 2014 Rapid Spaceback was posted on the company’s car configurator. Although the error has been fixed, the guys from Autoforum.cz have some of the images showing the Rapid Spaceback. As the photos show it, the new vehicle is comes without the frills and it appears that the designers focused on practicality.

We find larger rear quarter windows, longer rear doors and new taillights. Engines are expected to be the same found on the sedan version, which means that the Rapid Spaceback will get the 1.6-liter TDI delivering 90 hp or 105 hp, a 1.2-liter MPI with 75 hp and 112 Nm of torque, a 1.2-liter TSI with 86 hp or 105 hp and the 1.4-liter TSI engine with 122 hp and 200 Nm of torque.

The debut of the Rapid Spaceback is expected to be made in Autumn at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show.

When viewed from the side, the new Skoda Rapid Spaceback reveals a number of special accents. These accents make the new Skoda Rapid Spaceback sportier and more stretched than other conventional hatchbacks. Likewise, these accents help the new Skoda Rapid Spaceback stand out from its rivals, both in terms of appearance and functionality.

Helping characterize the silhouette of the new Skoda Rapid Spaceback are its clear lines, a sharp, high tornado line and its long wheelbase that measures 2,602 mm. Interestingly, the new Skoda Rapid Spaceback features a C- and D-pillar with a third side window, which along with slender pillars, helps provide the interior with ample external light while ensuring clarity.

Of course, the new Skoda Rapid Spaceback is available with a number of optional features. One of them is the massive panoramic glass roof that offers an unhindered view of the sky. Spanning from the windshield to the rear window, this feature is the largest glass roof that is available in a Skoda. Dimension-wise, this massive panoramic glass roof measures 1,713 mm by 1,155 mm while offering a viewing space of 1,210 mm by 780 mm.

The visual and functional effect of this massive panoramic glass roof is further amplified when paired with Rapid Spaceback's elongated rear window. When availed, the glazing area now spans from windshield to the tailgate. Interestingly, the glazed extended rear window now extends around 10 cm into the hatchback than the regular rear window.
