Leaked: BMW M5 30th Anniversary Edition

Article by Christian A., on May 5, 2014

Earlier today, we told you about the 30th Anniversary Edition of the M5, but now we received some real photos with the new vehicle. As we told you, the new M5 30th Anniversary Edition comes with the same 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that generates not 560 hp like on the standard version, but 600 hp and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque.

This model is only available with the M DCT double clutch automatic transmission. If the standard M5 hits 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.4 seconds, we expect this special edition to be quicker and be able to accelerate in just 4.2 seconds.

Regarding its design, the special edition of the M5 comes qith a BMW Individual Dark Silver metallic colour, dark chrome parts and 20-inch wheels in jet black polished. As an option, BMW offers the Competition Package, which adds a stiffer suspension that lowers the car by 10 millietres, new Dynamic mode and carbon ceramic brakes.

Inside, we find Merino black leather and Alcantara anthracite with the stitched “30 Jahre M5” lettering on all four seats, as well as Alcantara anthracite on the middle console, armrest and door handles. In addition, the steering wheel is wrapped in Alcantara anthracite, while the interior design is completed by the Aluminum Trace dark.

On the dashboard we also find a numbered plaque that says “30 Jahre M5” and “1/XXX”. BMW also offers the optional M multifunctional seats, the through-loading system, Harman Kardon surround or Bang & Olufsen Advanced audio systems, comfort access system and the Lane Change Warning or Driving Assistant.

According to the leaked documents, the M5 30th anniversary M5 will be available worldwide, except China, with no manual transmission in the United States.

Given that the new BMW M5 "30 Jahre M5" is a special-edition model, the brand made sure to give it the Individual treatment. This is in line with the anniversary celebrations that have resulted in the model’s creation. Thus compared to its siblings that generally come with the standard specifications, this new model has a figure that is truly a head-turner and is more dynamic.

Majority of this effect is owed to the use of the BMW Individual paint shade known as Frozen Dark Silver metallic. This matt finish has that soft shimmer which helps highlight the M5’s elegantly muscular shape in a rather extraordinary fashion. For the twin exhaust tailpipes, door handle inserts, kidney grille surround, and the gills having the "30 Jahre M5" badge on the model’s front wing, all come in black chrome.

This gives the M5 an effective but subtle accent. The same can be said for the M light-alloy bi-color 20-inch wheels. These same wheels are fitted with mixed tires measuring 265/35 ZR 20 on the front and 295/30 ZR 20 on the rear. The interior of the M5 is truly exclusive and showcases the powerful dynamics and discreet elegance. It is clear that by looking at the cabin of the M5 "30 Jahre M5", the focus was on commemorating the 30th anniversary of the model.

Once inside, both the driver and the passenger in the front will immediately see the "30 Jahre M5" lettering placed on the front door sill finishers. Then there is that plaque that also has the 30 Jahre M5" badge. In addition a "1/300" inscription has been integrated to the vehicle’s Aluminum Trace trim strip that is on the cabin side of the front passenger.

Further the backrests of all the four seats have been embroidered with the "30 Jahre M5" logo. On the front of this high-performance sedan, the driver and the passenger can position themselves comfortably in the multi-function seats. The seats have a wide array of electrically-controlled adjustments to allow for unparalleled standards when it comes to comfort and ergonomics.

Utilizing the combination of black Alcantara/leather not only provides exceptional seat comfort but also make the interior ambience more refined. This is also true for the Alcantara Anthracite trim seen on the door panels and center console. Also bearing that Alcantara Anthracite trim is the sports M steering wheel. The "30 Jahre M5" special edition is fitted with various equipment highlights, one of which is the advanced surround-sound system that comes with 16 speakers.
