In order to make its SUV even more attractive, Lexus introduced in the UK the RX 450h Advance. According to the official press release, the RX 450h Advance is offered as standard with a Mark Levinson premium 7.1 surround system (1,000 GBP list price) as well as with a new set of 19-inch alloy wheels. Despite the options, pricing starts at 48,495 GBP, which makes it an attractive offer.
The Lexus-bespoke audio package also includes a DVD player, rear-view camera but also the mouse-like Remote Touch audio and navigation control system. The Lexus Premium Navigation and Bluetooth for hands-free phone calls is provided as well.
What’s more interesting is that the price includes the choice of a sunroof or a fixed panoramic roof. Under the hood, there is the same 3.5-liter V6 petrol engine and an electric motor that produce a total output of 295bhp.
The hybrid system pushes the RX 450h from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in less than 8 seconds and returns a combined fuel economy of 44.8 UK mpg, while CO2 emissions are 145 g/km.
Lexus says that the RX 450h is already on sale now and will be available with a choice of five exterior colours – Velvet Black, Arctic Pearl, Mercury Grey, Satin Silver, Celestial Black – which can be matched with ivory, light grey, black and saddle tan leather and an optional Wood Pack.
Lexus has taken the wraps off the upgraded Lexus RX model range at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. On the exterior, the new RX delivers a new elegant and more assertive front end. Inside, the new RX boasts of a larger palette of color schemes and trim finishes. Also provided are a revised instrument binnacle, a new steering wheel, and a second-generation Remote Touch Interface (RTI).
Aside from the Normal, Eco and EV (electric only) drive modes that have been selectable for the previous iteration of the Lexus Hybrid Drive system, the RX 450h offers a fourth mode – Sport. Interestingly, the EV mode is selectable through a separate switch.
Likewise, the new RX range will be joined by a new model – the new Lexus F Sport. This model is the sportier model of the RX that would cater to a new set of customers. The new F Sport version comes loaded with bespoke exterior and interior design as well as driving dynamics technology. Lexus expects the new F Sport version to account for around 30 percent of future RX sales.
The launch of the original Lexus RX in 1998 marks the birth of the Luxury SUV segment. The RX effectively fuses the practicality, flexibility and durability of an SUV with the performance, refinement and handling, of a luxury sedan. Likewise, the RX was the first SUV to feature a full hybrid powertrain in 2005. Since then, the Lexus Hybrid Drive technology has found its way into two generations of the RX.
