Mastretta MXT to make its UK debut in 2011, will take on Lotus Elise

Mastretta’s MXT two-seater sports car, which debuted at the Paris Motor Show last week, will start selling in the UK in early 2011. The Mexican sports car maker said that this production ready car is regarded to be Mexico's answer to the Lotus Elise. The MXT is priced between £31,000 and £38,000.

The MXT is produced by the automotive division of Mexican design and engineering firm Tecnoidea. The first prototype of this model was shown during the 2008 British motor show.

It was supposed to start production in 2009, but it was postponed because of the recession. Changes made to the production car include refined exterior styling, an updated interior featuring high end materials and an all-new powertrain. Mastretta fine-tuned the suspension and revised the exhaust system and aerodynamics.

Mastretta Cars, a division of Tecnoidea, designed and engineered the Mastretta MXT high-performance sports car to deliver superb road performance while being as fuel efficient as possible. Featuring an aggressive design, this two-seat sports car promises to deliver remarkable driving dynamics while achieving an astonishing level of fuel efficiency.

Weighing just over 900 kg, this rear mid-engine lightweight coupé was developed by employing advanced aerospace materials and implementing state-of-the-art motorsport technology. It was conceived to deliver what the driver expects – pure performance – simply through purity of design.

It is powered by a turbocharged 2.0 L engine that provides up to 250 hp, thereby enabling the lightweight sports car to accelerate from nil to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.9 seconds.

Of course, the MXT was able to achieve this acceleration feat thanks to its finely tuned chassis, which enables the coupe to develop over 1.1 G of cornering and braking force. While tagged as a sports car, the Mastretta MXT is robust and practical enough to be driven and used daily.

In fact, the new MXT could endure long distance trips while cruising city streets with ease. Not only that, the MXT boasts of a roomy interior, laden with elements that exude both performance and elegance. For instance, this offering from Mastretta features leather-wrapped carbon fiber seats.

Also, it boasts of interior accents trimmed in Ultrasuede. Of course, the Mastretta MXT would not be complete without a number of technological innovations like a multimedia system with GPS, Bluetooth and iPod compatibility. While the Mastretta MXT is built for performance, agility and versatility, it is also designed to provide quite a high degree of comfort, thanks to its lightweight vehicle construction.
