Mazda CX-3 mini SUV to bear company’s new family look

Article by Anita Panait, on January 7, 2013

Wondering how the new Mazda CX-3 would look like when the Japanese carmaker launches the vehicle in late 2014 or early 2015? According to a speculative rendering, the Mazda CX-3 mini sports utility vehicle will have the carmaker’s new family look, which features the five-point grille connected to the headlights through a strip of chrome.

Mazda CX-3 will be designed and developed using Mazda’s Skyactiv technologies to control the weight of the mini-SUV. The vehicle will be powered by Mazda’s new 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which will also power the Mazda2 and next generation Mazda3. Mazda is also expected to offer an efficient and low-emission 1.6-litre turbo diesel engine for the Mazda CX-3.

CX3 also features an ingenious seating layout, with rear seats that can fold flat rear seats with a touch of a button. The Mazda CX-3, based on the Mazda2 city car, is an ideal small sibling to the CX-5 and CX-9 SUVs.

The new Mazda CX-3 could be considered as a new model designed to be a part of the modern era. As Mazda’s first small SUV, the new CX-3 has been styled to make it stand out from the crowd.

Just as what could be expected from a Mazda vehicle, the new CX-3 comes with a progressive form that conveys dynamism and enjoyable driving – making the small SUV suitable for customers with active lifestyles and independent perspectives. As penned, the new CX-3 is laden with several attributes of the KODO - Soul of Motion design language. These include the SUV’s compact rear-leaning cabin and sculpted, flowing lines. These attributes are well-blended with several traits common on SUVs like large wheels, high beltline and side moldings.

The front end of the new Mazda CX-3 small SUV is marked by a high-nosed grille with seven silver fins as well as chromed signature wings. This grille is flanked by sharp headlight units that employ LED technology. These headlamps also employ an innovative light-guiding technology that illuminates the wing section within the unit.

Strong footing is one of the known traits of Mazda’s KODO models. However, this trait is further emphasized on the new Mazda CX-3 with its 18-inch five-spoke aluminum wheels. Its 3D-contoured spokes feature glossy outer surfaces that are contrasted by gunmetal grey metallic contour surfaces.

Meanwhile, the rear end of the new Mazda CX-3 features a neat tailgate design with a number plate and prominent dual exhaust pipes. This design helps highlight the SUV’s short overhang while concealing its rear parking camera. The rear end is also marked by combination taillights extending from the sides into the liftgate. These combination taillights come with a distinct brand signature with a slim upper line and 3D-contoured brake lamp.
