Mazda will be launching six vehicles at the 2013 Tokyo Auto Salon. The first one is the Atenza (also known as Mazda6) Racer. It features an aerodynamic body kit with a front lip spoiler and modified side skirts. In addition, it is equipped with Brembo brakes as well as a sporty interior with black leather seats and alloy pedals.

The same look is shared by the Atenza Grand Touring Wagon and the Atenza Racer. The difference is with the use of a modified interior with a sport steering wheel and black trim with red accents. Mazda will also unveil the Atenza GT Sound Special, which is derived from the XD L variant and comes with a navigation system and a Diatone audio system.

It boasts of a two-tone interior with wood trim. Then there’s the CX-5 Grand Touring that features an aerodynamic body kit, Brembo brakes and a set of 20-inch alloy wheels.

The CX-5 Active Driver, on the other hand, uses a white exterior with a carbon fiber hood, gloss black accents and distinctive alloy wheels. It also gets sport seats, a steering wheel covered by alcantara and some alloy pedals. The sixth model is Mazda’s LMP2 SKYACTIV-D race car that will be participating in the Le Mans Series.

Mazda is set to take part in the segment of compact crossover SUVs with an entry that does more than participate. This vehicle has to stir up a whole new level of driving passion and emotion to justify a Mazda badge and the newest CX-5 makes the best contender. This model is the very first production model to debut Mazda’s latest KODO – Soul of Motion theme which is inspired by the idea of motion along with nature’s power and beauty.

The KODO theme was unveiled for the first time in the 2010 Mazda Shinari which started out as a four-door sports car concept, and followed by the Mazda Minagi in which the CX-5 is based. It is set to demonstrate a totally new generation of vehicles that are a lot faster, stronger and have a very soulful way of motion.

The essence of KODO embodies the actions of animals. It is packed with emotion, agility and vitality. The designers specifically studied one of the quickest land animals – the cheetahs and observed how they are able to use their whole body like a spring and set immense energy into action with astounding grace and skill. Roused by such a beauty, KODO is embraced to take this SUV to a whole new level.

This results in a more sophisticated exterior that expresses functionality as well as sturdiness and projects boldly refined movements and the expectation of an exciting drive.
