If you are the happy owner of a McLaren MP4-12C, you will be happy to know that the company if offering free ECU (Engine Control Unit) upgrades for its well known supercar. If the standard vehicle is powered by a 3.8-liter V8 engine delivering 441 kW (592 bhp / 600 PS) and 599 Nm (442 lb-ft) from 3,000 rpm, now the vehicle will receive an extra 25 PS.

According to an official letter from McLaren Automotive's Managing Director Antony Sheriff, MP4-12C owners will receive a free 25 PS upgrade for their car as well as a number of features that initial customers have requested such as remote opening of the passenger door, programmable engine note and enhanced equalization options on the Meridian surround sound system.

The upgrade will be available in October 2012, same time when the company will upgrade the IRIS system.

The new power upgrade is expected to improve a little bit the performances of the MP4-12C, which are already impressive: a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in around 3.0 seconds and a top speed of 300 km/h (186 mph). The total output of 625 PS might improve these performances.

McLaren Automotive, never settling on its past successes, has revealed a set of improvements that will confirm that the MP4-12C is a high performing sports car that is an even more exciting drive.

The headline change is a 25PS (25hp) increase in power. The maximal output of the twin turbocharged mid-mounted V8 is at 625PS (616hp), giving greater acceleration at track speeds without losing efficiency. McLaren's engineers made changes to the 12C's engine and SSG transmission to increase response. This type of car is not known as being easy to use, but this one got improvements from a range of detail changes and greater choices of paints, leathers, and wheel options that give buyers even more personalisation possibilities.

MP4-12C's one-of-a-kind Intake Sound Generator (ISG) controls how much of the engine intake is heard in the cabin and can be programmed to one of three levels in every powertrain setting so that they can select how much drama he or she wants to enjoy hearing, no matter the road. But the one thing that is still the same is the MP4-12C's purposed style, except for a minor change to the McLaren Speed Marque emblem.

This latest McLaren MP4-12C iteration launches to fix a new standard among competitors for strength, effectiveness, and innovations and is available for ordering today. Customers that have already been delivered their 12C will not be overlooked. Each 12C owner is going to be offered by an upgrade package for free, including the additional 25PS (25hp), emphasizes the McLaren dedication to its customers by making sure they adore owning a 12C as much as driving a 12C.

Harkening to its racing genes, it is in McLaren’s nature to always look for ways to improve. The McLaren Automotive team knows that current and future owners are deserving of the greatest product and services that can be offered, and the launching of the improved MP4-12C confirms McLaren’s spot as the most commanding luxury sports car.
