For this year’s 2014 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, McLaren Special Opeartions (MSO) returns with two bespoke models of the McLaren P1 and the 650S Spider. The special McLaren P1 was already commissioned by a North American customer and features an exclusive Stirling Grey exterior finish, while at the front, silver finishing to the aluminum radiator grilles sit below the gloss carbon fiber bumper.
The hood carries the McLaren Orange speedmark. Seen from the side, we observe the orange black calipers and the ‘P1’ logo which carries the same colour. At the rear, we find 24 carat gold heatshields around the engine bay and Inconel exhaust, as well as the dark paintwork and Satin Nickel-finished Stealth Pack.
The rear wing is finished in the same Stirling Grey colour making a contrast with the upper sections of the wing pistons finished in orange. Inside, the P1 comes with carbon fiber and Alcantara, while the carbon fiber sport buckets are fitted with a four-point harness.
In addition, the interior features Stone Grey binding and stitching on all upholstery as well as McLaren Orange accents on the centre console. The airvents are finished in Satin Nickel and mimic the finish found on the exhaust finisher.
Under the hood, there is a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that delivers 737 hp and 720 Nm of torque, as well as an electric motor generating 173 hp and 260 Nm of torque. With a total output of 916 hp, the McLaren P1 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in less than 3 seconds, to 200 km/h (124 mph) in under 7 seconds and to 300 km/h (186 mph) in 17 seconds. Top speed is 217 mph or 350 km/h.
The MSO 650S Spider was designed in collaboration with Mclaren Newport Beach and McLaren Automotive Design Director Frank Stephenson. As you can see from the photos, it features a special colour called Cerulean Blue, which is in contrast with the satin carbon fiber details on the front bumper, side air intakes and on the centre section of the rear bumper as well as the large MSO rear air diffuser.
The exterior is completed by the 10-spoke Super Lightweight alloy wheels and chrome on the exhaust finishers. Insider, we find carbon black leather and blue stitching that extends on the steering wheel, dashboard and doors.
The sport seats also feature the McLaren speedmark embroidered into the headrests and blue contrast stitching. When the door is open we can also see the MSO branded carbon fiber sill panel. What’s more interesting is that the MSO 650 Spider features a special plaque signed by Frank Stephenson.
Under the hood, the 650S Spider uses the same 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 that develops 650 hp and 678 Nm (500 lb-ft) of torque. As a result, the vehicle is able to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.0 seconds and to 200 km/h (124 mph) in 8.6 seconds. Top speed is 329 km/h or 204 mph. [source: McLaren]
