Mercedes-AMG is planning to double its sales in the next three years and in order to do this, the company wants to expand its lineup with less expensive products wearing the AMG Sport badge . The first cheaper models will be unveiled in January, at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show as Mercedes-AMG will unveil the new C450 AMG Sport.
This model will close the gap between the C400 4Matic and the more potent C63 AMG. According to Mercedes-AMG, the C450 AMG Sport will be offered with an increased engine output, all-wheel-drive as well as a tuned chassis and brake parts taken from the AMG models.
Sources confirmed the fact that the C450 AMG Sport will use a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 petrol engine, bolted to a 7-speed automatic transmission used by the C400, but boosted from 329 hp to around 367 hp.
Mercedes-AMG aims to increase its sales and this year they said that more than 40,000 cars will be delivered, which is a new record. Their lineup includes the AMG GT sports car as well as performance compact models such as the A45 AMG.
According to Tobias Moers, head of Mercedes-AMG, the subbrand aims to double its sales in the next three years over 2013. Back in 2013, 32,200 vehicles were sold, which means that in the next three years, Mercedes-AMG aims to sell over 60,000 vehicles per year.
