Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Coupé Black Series features a design that has a lot of similarities with that of the SLS AMG GT3 race car. The SLS AMG GT3 – developed according to the rules of the FIA GT3 – has quickly proven that they pose a serious challenger against the cream of the crop. For the 2012 motorsport season, the SLS AMG GT3 is trying to prove that it is one of the best by being fielded in over 15 racing series in four continents around the world. Indeed, results don’t deny.
As of October 28, 2012, the SLS AMG GT3 has already won 37 victories in the 2012 season. It started the year with a trio of wins at the 24-hour Dubai race in January. It also claimed three driver and team titles in the FIA GT3 European Championship, the ADAC GT Masters and the FIA GT3 World Championship. Moreover, the SLS AMG GT3 has managed secure a number of podium finishes in several short-distance, four- and six-hour races.
On the other hand, the new SLS AMG Black Series features muscular and more aggressive appearance, as accentuated by its darkened headlamps and rear lights with black surrounds. Its sportiness is supported by the fact that it comes with wide flared wings, which make each side on the front wider by 13 mm and on the rear by 26 mm. These wings are wide enough to accommodate the vehicle’s sports tires that measure 275 mm on the front and 325 mm on the rear.
AMG was able to optimize the aerodynamic balance of the SLS AMG Black Series by installing a front apron and a rear apron with diffuser. The new SLS AMG Black Series also features side sill panels in Black Series-specific design, with carbon inserts in the side sills, CFRP front splitter, and carbon fiber rear apron. Moreover, the new SLS AMG Black Series comes with enlarged air intakes with carbon fiber flics.
