Ok, the news about the Mercedes-Benz MLC are not quite new as we know that the German carmaker wants to take on the BMW X6 due to the impressive sales of the SUV. Today, Mercedes-Benz revealed the so-called Concept Coupe SUV, a vehicle that previews the upcoming MLC. The new concept was unveiled by Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche at the annual shareholders meeting and according to the reports.
It appears that a production version of this new concept will arrive in 2015. Codenamed C292, the new SUV will be built in the United States, alongside the M-Class. Just like the BMW X6 is based on the X5, the new MLC will be based on the M-Class.
Still, the design of the upcoming MLC will be far more aggressive than the M-Class and listening to Mercedes-Benz, the production version will not be far away from the concept’s looks.
According to Dieter Zetsche, the Concept Coupe provides a realistic glimpse of a series-production vehicle that is expected next year. The Concept Coupe SUV from Mercedes-Benz will make its debut at the Beijing Motor Show later this month, which means that we will reveal you more details and photos very soon.
The production version of the Concept Coupe SUV is expected to use the same petrol and diesel engines found on the M-Class. We do expect a high-performance MLC63 AMG as well as a V12-powered MLC65 AMG.
The Concept Coupé SUV has that coupé-like quality that is helped by how the rear end has been designed. This section contains obvious elements coming from the design line first seen under the S-Class Coupé. Mercedes-Benz revealed that in the future, this will be followed by all the coupe models. There are various styling characteristics like the slim band of the model’s rear lights and how they have a three-dimensional and ruby-like appearance.
Meanwhile, the registration place has now been integrated to the bumper in the rear. The rear window also has that usual shape and is rounded off at its top portion. This is a feature that has managed to differentiate for years the brand’s large coupé models.
Further, there is also a discreet SUV reference through the simulated underguard wherein the dual-flow exhaust system’s tailpipes have been integrated. Polished aluminum clearly dominates here.
The same can be said for the edging of the greenhouse, air intakes on the front, side sills, and integral door handles. The whole body sites on the flush-fitted and wide 22-inch wheels equipped with tires sized 305/45 R 22. This allows the model to sit squarely on the road and clearly express the Concept Coupé SUV’s passion. Even at a first look this particular trailblazing study reveals the vehicle’s dynamic and sporty ambitions.
Mercedes-Benz has long been known to be particularly strong in developing and creating new vehicle classes and model families. Not surprising as Mercedes-Benz is considered as the inventor of the automobile.
The history of the brand’s coupés, particularly in the recent past, is proof of that. The brand has managed to create completely new vehicle classes through the four-door Coupés or even the Shooting Brakes in the CLS-Class.
Mercedes-Benz has also managed to leave a lasting impact on how different manufacturers implement model policies and even had various imitators. Not surprising that Mercedes-Benz has more than proven to be an outstanding sales success.
