Mercedes-Benz SLC to debut in 2016, Black Series version also planned

Article by Christian A., on May 27, 2013

It’s not a secret that Mercedes-Benz is planning a 911-rival in the form of the SLC, a smaller version of the SLS AMG but without the hinged doors. The new SLC will be powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine delivering 485 hp and will carry a price tag of around 109,000 euros according to AutoBild. An S version will also be available with 550 hp and around 145,000 euros.

Still, the SLC will receive a Black Series with 585 hp. Moreover, the Mercedes-Benz SLC will not offer a four-wheel drive or convertible versions as the German manufacturer relies only on the coupe.

Comparing it with the SLS AMG, the SLC will retain its shape featuring a long bonnet and an impressive design. Furthermore, the SLC will ride on an aluminum space frame in order to be lighter than its rivals. Mercedes-Benz is planning to introduce this new model in 2016.

The new Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG features a characteristic design that dynamically reinterprets the lines of the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL. Its purist design allows the new SLS AMG to properly convey the philosophy of modern sports car engineering. For instance, it features a bonnet measuring under two meters, a low greenhouse biased to the rear as well as a short rear-end with an extendable aerofoil. Moreover, the new SLS AMG has a long wheelbase, a wide track and large wheels.

Likewise, the sporty proportions of the new SLS AMG are further emphasized by its short overhangs, its low-slung front-mid engine and dual-clutch transmission in transaxle configuration. Of course, the sporty and elegant styling of the new SLS AMG is highlighted by its gullwing doors, thereby allowing this new supercar to make a one-of-a-kind statement in its segment.

Interestingly, a number of details found in the new SLS AMG pay tribute to the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL. These include its gullwing doors and the wide radiator grille with the large Mercedes star, as well as the wing-shaped cross fins.

Meanwhile, the SLS AMG’s 3D sculptured front-end as well as its low-set, swept-back front apron allows the new supercar to bear a powerful stance on the road. The front end of the SLS AMG is defined by its vertically arranged headlamps and six large cooling air intakes. The central bi-xenon low-beam headlamp – featuring a metallic wing section – is bordered on the top by two LED indicators and on the bottom by the LED daytime driving lights.
