There has been so much attention to detail in the making of the miniature vehicles in the Mercedes-Benz Collection that they’re very much alike the real models. In fact, model-car maker Premium Classixxs, the leading magazine for model cars in Germany, has announced the miniature versions of Mercedes-Benz vehicles as the winners in eight categories. The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG 1:12 scale model received two awards.
The gullwing model from the Mercedes-Benz Collection received the overall award as "Super Model Vehicle 2011.” It also took first place in the 1:12 category. Readers voted which they preferred from among 162 models (including 31 Mercedes-Benz models) in 22 categories. Mercedes-Benz outlets offer miniature versions that are offered in a range of nearly 100% genuine colors and a choice of scales.
The collection of model cars is wider with the many model cars built in collaboration with licensed partners. Aside from the collector’s models, there also miniatures in categories that Mercedes‑Benz Accessories GmbH doesn’t cover, like RC cars or slot cars.
Mercedes-Benz attaches tremendous importance to the licensed products through the attention to detail and high value. Developers have access to either CAD data or digitalized design data from the original. They may also be provided with a vehicle for photographic purposes. Before the miniatures are approved, they have to pass design, quality and logos.
The new Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG has a distinctive styling that reflects passionate sportiness, thanks to its reinterpretation of the beautiful lines that first appeared on the iconic Mercedes-Benz 300 SL. The new SLS AMG comes with a purist design that conveys the contemporary sports car engineering philosophy, where the bonnet measures just nearly two meters, the greenhouse is positioned low to the rear, track is wide, the wheels are large, and the short rear-end with extendable aerofoil reminds you of the car's superlative dynamism just like the long wheelbase.
Moreover, the new SLS AMG has a super sports car design with low-slung and front-mid engine that is mounted on the back, short overhangs, as well as a dual-clutch transmission in a transaxle configuration. These elements are supported by the car's proportions.
Another distinctive feature of the SLS AMG is its gullwing doors. These doors are considered the SLS AMG's styling highlight and are a unique statement by Mercedes-Benz in this car segment.
These gullwing doors are also reminiscent of the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL, as are the SLS AMG's wing-shaped cross fins and hallmark wide radiator grille that bears the globally recognizable Mercedes star.
The new car's sculptured three-dimensional front-end with low-set and swept-back front apron that is set into the sides give the 'Gullwing' a very powerful presence on the road. Meanwhile, there are six cooling air intakes and vertically lined up headlamps mounted on the car's exterior with inner ambience offer an air of dominance. The bi-xenon low-beam central headlamp has a metallic wing section that is framed on top by a couple of LED indicators, while the daytime LED driving lights are positioned at the bottom.
The SLS AMG features an aircraft-inspired construction with its prominent Mercedes star, which has a tubular section that reminds you of a jet engine's air intake when seen from the side, as well as with its long bonnet, which draws your attention toward the curve. The car's four fins in Silver Shadow finish that accessorize the air outlet grilles on the bonnet's end are also designed in such a way that creates a similar visual impression. Moreover, the car has aircraft-style lines that visually accelerate air flowing past, in turn making the car appear very dynamic even if it is not moving at all.
