Mercedes-Benz using the B-Class to test the new AMG version of the A-Class

Article by Christian A., on December 9, 2011

For those who thought that Mercedes-Benz will launch an AMG version of the B-Class we have bad news as the German manufacturer has a completely different plan. Although media reports stated that an AMG B-Class is on its way, it appears that Mercedes-Benz was in fact testing the new AMG version of the upcoming A-Class. That’s right, the B-Class was in fact an A-Class AMG test mule.

Moreover, an insider already confirmed the fact that the AMG B-Class is interesting but this car is not suitable for traditional AMG customers. Furthermore, the new A-Class AMG will be powered by a twin-scroll 2.0-litre direct-injection engine delivering up to 320 hp, mated to a six-speed, dual-clutch gearbox.

The new AMG A-Class will also feature a Haldex-style four-wheel drive system with a multi-plate clutch.

The B-Class driveline mule will also be used by Mercedes-Benz to gatjer data on a possible performance version of Mercedes-Benz upcoming GLC crossover, a car that will take on cars such as the Range Rover Evoque. The Mercedes-Benz GLC is expected to hit the market sometime in 2013.

Mercedes Benz comes out with its second generation SUV that we now know as the GLC. Good news is, this new mid-size SUV practically sets another milestone when it comes to energy efficiency, technology and safety. Equipped with latest assistance systems and built with outstanding fuel consumption and energy efficiency, the new GLC has proven to be the better version of its older model.

If there’s one, the latest GLC model provides 19% more fuel savings that the first one it produced. Also, it provides better road agility and ride comfort due to its amazing new features. The new model is now equipped with 4MATIC permanent all-wheeel drive, DYNAMIC SELECT transmission and AIR BODY CONTROL suspension system.

For those who are familiar with the GLC concept Coupé last spring, then they will surely appreciate what the designers did to this SUV’s surface. Mercedes has clearly borrowed the clear and sensual design standards of the GLC concept and brought it to the up-and-coming SUV lineups.

Thomas Weber explained how the new GLC defines their new design philosophy. And with this SUV, they have combined the latest design and equipment line along with the new driving comfort and sporty looks that it has to offer. On the contrary, they had kept Mercerdes’ modern yet sensual aesthetics instead of the usual off-road appearance found on conventional SUVs.

The GLC by all means is a continuation of the G-Class when it comes to its exterior qualities. But technically, the new GLC has all the impressive features of an off-road SUV, which places it higher above the rest.
