Mercedes-Benz unveiled on its Google+ page a teaser of the Vision Gran Turismo, a concept car that will be featured in the Gran Turismo 6. Back in August, BMW revealed its Vision Gran Turismo Concept and the German manufacturer will not be the only one who will feature its concept cars in the popular game as Alfa Romeo, Alpine, Audi, Aston Martin, Bertone, General Motors, Italdesign Giugiaro, Honda, Jordan Brand, Nike, Nissan, Peugeot, SRT and Volkswagen.
Earlier today, Mercedes-Benz unveiled another new model, the SLS AMG GT Final Edition and promised that it will bring it at both the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show and the Tokyo Motor Show.
“Video games are perfectly suited to precisely addressing young, modern target groups on an emotional level. Gran Turismo 6, with its uncontested reputation as setting the benchmark in the racing-games genre, provides the perfect platform for creating an interactive experience with a new, visionary concept for a Mercedes-Benz’s super sports car. We are certain that the concept vehicle will inspire millions of gamers and Gran Turismo fans worldwide.” said Lüder Fromm, Head of Global Marketing Communications, Mercedes-Benz Passenger Cars.
Mercedes-Benz’s designers at its Advanced Design Studios in Carlsbad, California, and Sindelfingen, Germany, were responsible for the AMG Vision Gran Turismo’s exterior design, while the team at its Advanced Interior Design Studio in Como, Italy, did the interior design. They were able to successfully develop the car in a relatively short amount of time, while still working precisely according to the regular design process that is followed when creating new series show cars and production vehicles.
Because of its passion for super sports cars, the Mercedes-Benz design team was able to beat the impossible and came up with the AMG Vision Gran Turismo in record time. Also, the fact that the car is a perfect blend of modern design language and classic design elements derived from motor racing history significantly helped accelerate the creative process.
According to Gorden Wagener, VP for Design at Daimler AG, the AMG Vision Gran Turismo uniquely represents Mercedes-Benz’s defining design principle of sensual purity, thanks to its expressive appearance and proportions. This concept car’s design expresses the perfect symbiosis between sensuous, emotional contours and intelligently presented advanced technology.
Typical Mercedes sports car proportions have been reinterpreted. For one, the long bonnet features a flowing transition to a compact greenhouse in the form of an aerodynamically efficient drop of water that slightly descends at the rear and rests on the stylish yet powerful rear end that has broad shoulder contours. Moreover, the car’s dynamic aura is accentuated by a dramatic and extended side contour as well as a prominent bulge to its wheel arches, which join the muscular, low-slung bodyshell. The car’s small front overhang, long wheelbase, and longer rear overhang also indicate its acceleration power.
