Every time Mercedes-Benz comes out with a new model, it is expected that AMG is likely to come up to with a high-performance version of it. For example, with the unveiling of the Concept X-Class and the fact that a production version of this model is expected to be released by the end of 2017, it did not take the Affalterbach-based company very long to have a version that showed more muscle. However, it now appears that it is not only Motor1 who is looking into this possibility as X-Tomi Design has also come out with its own rendition of the X63 AMG.
For those not familiar, Mercedes-Benz’s Concept X-Class was a truck that had the luxury legacy of the company combined with the standard truck utility. What this meant is that it was a truck that displayed style and can be used on the job but at the same time function as family transport. As a result, the design of the Concept X-Class had the qualities of the luxury models as well as those of its standard pickups.
Now while Mercedes-Benz revealed that the X-Class will be powered with the V6 diesel engine, the X-Tomi version is imagined to have the biturbo 4.0-liter V8 engine from AMG. Though this particular engine can be offered with different tuning, the version in the AMG GT R is likely the best option for this considering the 577 horsepower (430 kW) output.
In terms of design, X-Tomi puts in a new lower fascia for the front section and even has the swoopy design seen on many of the present AMG models. Helping make the style even more menacing are the bed cap, roof, and grille, all of which have been blacked out. By putting masking on the area surrounding the headlights, it makes the vehicle have more of a squint. The addition of new mirrors, clearly straight out of the parts bin of AMG, and the multi-spoke wheels complete the new design.
It goes without saying that when it comes to the X63, the main highlight would have to be the vehicle’s off-road capability. As such, should there be a team at AMG whose main task is to tune the G63, or even the G65, tuning the X63 would be the perfect job for them. Of course, in a perfect world, a team like this would likely come up with a more hardcore variant of the 4x4 G550. The best version is likely to have the low-range transfer case, locking differentials, and big suspension lift.
The possibility of the X-Class being tuned by AMG though is probably slim to none. This is because for those who want a hardcore off-roader, Mercedes-Benz already has the G-Class and there is talk that a new generation is being developed. In addition, the development of the X-Class is being done by Mercedes-Benz itself. The only way AMG would handle this would be if they were doing it as an April Fool’s Day prank.
