Players of the famed Gran Turismo 6 for PlayStation 3 will now be able to have a Mini Clubman Vision Gran Turismo on their virtual garages, albeit for a limited time. Kazunori Yamauchi, president of Polyphony Digital Inc. that produces the Gran Turismo franchise, has been calling on major carmakers to contribute to the series, which is on its 15th year.
He wants the design departments of these carmakers to share their vision of future cars with the gaming community through their groundbreaking concepts. These models are transformed in virtual racers that will be integrated into the latest iteration of the Gran Turismo 6 for PlayStation 3, in the form of online updates.
For the latest update, the wide-stance Mini Clubman Vision Gran Turismo was included and can be availed by completing a lap in a new seasonal event that is available for a limited time. Christopher Well, head of Mini exterior design, said in a statement that the Mini Clubman Vision Gran Turismo combines “all the hallmark Mini design features presented in the sportiest and most exciting style.
The Clubman has a virtual weight of 2,315 lbs. and boasts of 389 hp. It has a virtual top speed of 180 mph. Just like how a Mini won’t be a Mini sans customization, the Clubman Gran Turismo will be available in five color variants.
It features adjustable carbon diffusers in the front and rear, large vents behind the rear wheel arches for regulating airflow for cooling the engine and brakes. It also split rear spoiler and a fully enclosed underbody for improved aerodynamics.
Carmakers are viewing the gaming world not only as a place where they build awareness for their products, but also place to build brand affinity with next generation of car buyers. In fact, carmakers like Infiniti, Volkswagen, Mazda, Aston Martin and others already have their concepts integrated into the game.
