In a recent interview, Jim McDowell a.k.a. MINI U.S. boss revealed the fact that the coupe version of the four-door Countryman crossover dubbed Countryman Coupe will hit the U.S. shores in the first quarter of 2013. As you may remember, this car was unveiled at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show in the concept form and was called the Paceman.

The new MINI Countryman Coupe will take on the Land Rover Evoque, which was recently named the 2012 Truck Of The Year, and promises to boost MINI sales to new records.

Although McDowell didn’t give us any details regarding the new model we do expect to see plenty of styling elements borrowed from the Paceman Concept.

For those who don’t know, the concept was powered by a MINI John Cooper Works 1.6-litre twin-scroll turbocharged engine delivering 155 kW/211 hp and a maximum torque of 260 Nm (192 lb-ft).

Thanks to the Overboost function the torque can be increased to as much as 280 Nm (207 lb-ft) in short bursts. The new MINI Countryman Coupe will probably make its debut in September, at the 2012 Paris Motor Show.

If MINI set a record in the United States in 2011 in terms of sales, 2013 seems to be another record year with the addition of the new model.

MINI also announced that it will three new models by the end of the decade which will use an all-new BMW Group front-wheel-drive platform that debuts with the second-generation Mini Cooper hardtop in 2014.

MINI Countryman crossover combines a MINI’s distinctively absorbing handling characteristics with a four-door car’s versatile interior and a Sports Activity Vehicle’s optimized traction. At the same time, the Countryman provides a fresh interpretation of the established features of a MINI in terms of premium quality, efficiency, design, and customization. The new Countryman is the brand's 4th model – after the two-door classic, the MINI Convertible, and the MINI Clubman. It is able to meet the challenges of urban mobility through its impressive flexibility, and is able to capture the imagination through its wider range of abilities. Moreover, it paves the way for more prospective customers with varied mobility-based needs to experience the MINI’s trademark driving fun.

MINI Countryman has a bunch of attractive features, including comfortable individual seats for 4 people, or a space for up to 5 people, plus raised seating position. It also has a versatile interior, a new generation of efficient and powerful engines, and a MINI ALL4 all-wheel-drive system that is available as an option. Its exterior and interior concept propels it toward broader target groups, with family or with leisure pursuits that have created a need for flexibility and space.

MINI’s unmistakable design language boasts the Countryman’s innovative vehicle concept in fitting style. It is the first MINI to have a length of more than 4 meters and it also follows the principle of creating maximum interior functionality and space on a compact footprint. Aside from the classic MINI proportions, the Countryman’s characteristic design features on all sides help ensure that it is instantly recognizable as a brand family member.

Countryman’s name also reflects the MINI’s historic roots as well as its British origins. It also builds on its ancestors’ heritage of brilliant small car concept, which is devised by Alec Issigonis.
