Mitsubishi updates the Lancer for the 2013MY

Article by Christian A., on August 9, 2012

Mitsubishi’s 2013 model year Lancer SE AWC will be getting minor revisions. It will come with a fuel-efficient 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine that can deliver 168-hp and 167 lb-ft of torque. The SE AWC trim will also be available with a new Thule plug-in roof carrier accommodation that’s highly convenient, a set of new 16-inch five-spoke wheels, and a new Premium Package that’s worth $1,550.

Otherwise, Mitsubishi has kept the Lancer lineup’s new model year mostly unchanged. The package includes a power glass sunroof, Rockford Fosgate audio system with SiriusXM satellite radio, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, high-contrast meter with color LCD MID, and soft-touch door trim with a chrome lever.

Those who want a Lancer model that’s more affordable can go for either the 2.0L DE or the 2.0L ES model. The Lancer GT will use the same 2.4-liter installed in the SE AWC model. What performance fans are sure to like is the range-topping Ralliart model that is offered with 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder, capable of 237-hp and 253 lb-ft of torque.

Lancer DE has a starting price of $15,995 while the ES model is priced at $17,095. The two models use a five-speed manual transmission.

ES model, which has a continuously variable transmission (CVT), is priced from $17,995 while the SE AWC, which has the 2.4-liter and CVT, has a starting price of $20,295. Retailing at $19,995 is the Lancer GT with a five-speed manual. But for just $1,000 more, the consumer can get a CVT on the GT model. The 2013 Ralliart model has a starting price of $28,095.

New Mitsubishi Lancer boasts a new and sophisticated trailing-arm type of multi-link rear suspension, which contributes to its ability to provide the ride and handling characteristics people have come to expect from a more expensive car. What’s more, the Lancer has a lighter yet more rigid rack-type crossmember to enhance handling response.

Additionally, the new Lancer has lower toe control arm and increased camber rigidity compared to the current model so as to deliver a better steering stability. Also, by raising its trailing arm bushing, Mitsubishi has improved the new Lancer’s suspension operation when it traverses rough surfaces and has enhanced ride comfort.

Moreover, the Lancer ES boasts an 18-mm rear stabilizer bar and its GTS sport-tuned suspension has a 20-mm rear bar. It also features changes in shock damping forces and in spring rate, and pillow-ball bushing for the upper and the toe control arms.

Ball joint-type stabilizer links contribute to handling stability, together with new hub unit bearing, which results to toe rigidity and higher camber.

The 2008 Lancer has its highly rigid body structure, its newly designed suspension, and its rack/pinion steering system to thank for its crisp and fluid steering response. Its new steering rack boasts a slightly larger diameter compared to that of the previous Lancer.
