Mopar and 3M create customized map decals for Jeep Grand Cherokee, Wrangler and Cherokee

Chrysler's Mopar brand has partnered with 3M to offer customizable map decals for the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Wrangler or Cherokee. Interested customers could just visit mopar.com/jeephoods where they could design a map that will be installed by a dealer on the hood of their vehicles. The $295 decals can be customized for any location in North America and can show either topography or a street map.

The map emanated from a one-time Jeep that Mopar developed earlier in 2014 and unveiled at the annual Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, Utah. Pietro Gorlier, global head of the Mopar parts and service brand, remarked that the Jeep featured a topographical map of a famous off-road trail at Moab and was a big hit among enthusiasts at the safari.

Convinced that the map decals would create interest, Gorlier called his supplier, 3M. In collaboration with 3M, Mopar engineers created a system that allows customers to create their own individual maps, have them printed and delivered to dealers where they will be installed.

The map decals will fit exactly the specific hood dimensions of MY2007-2015 Jeep Wranglers, MY2014-2015 Jeep Cherokees and MY2011-2015 Jeep Grand Cherokees. Gorlier remarked that the initiative is trying to move customization to the customer.

Jim Roth, 3M's global operations manager for original wraps, quipped that the idea of customized vinyl maps was developed over a weekend. He also credited Mopar with the idea of having customers order map graphics for Jeep. He remarked that it was 3M that came up with the online tool that allows customer to select locations and points of interest.

The new 2014 Jeep Cherokee features a new exterior that would appeal to a global audience. The new Cherokee is a result of efforts by Jeep designers to create a vehicle that takes the brand into a new era with an efficient shape that still maintains the Jeep DNA and design heritage. Jeep ensured that the all-new 2014 Cherokee doesn’t just look efficient and capable, but is really efficient and capable.

As designed by Jeep, the all-new Cherokee features an aerodynamic upper body marked by fluid, sleek lines. It also features a rugged, protective lower body that indicates that this model is endowed with Jeep’s legendary capability.

Jeep gave the new all-new 2014 Cherokee a dynamic stance and imposing road presence, as complemented by its assertive wheel-to-body proportion as well as aggressive approach and departure angles. Up front, the all-new Cherokee features the waterfall hood with the signature peaked, seven-slotted grille – in a one-piece assembly that helps ensure a precise built. The clearly defined waterfall hood is separated from the front fenders.

All-new 2014 Jeep Cherokee extensively employs advanced LED technology. On the front, its daytime running lamps (DRL) are shaped in way that makes the headlamps look slim and sleek. On the rear, the Cherokee uses full LED tail lamps as a primary part of the rear backlight graphic, which serves as a connection between the upper and lower rear sections.
