The newest BMW X1 will be launched for sale beginning July 2012, with the BMW X1 sDrive18d available at a starting price of £24,660. The latest BMW X1 provides a more sophisticated and sportier approach on the luxury compact crossover, a market defined when the vehicle was introduced more than two years ago.
The vehicle features an updated dynamic styling on the exterior, detailed cabin enhancements and a new array of innovative diesel engines. Rear-wheel drive X1 units now come with a carbon dioxide emission rating of not greater than 130 g/km. A new eight-speed automatic gearbox matched with the award-winning EfficientDynamics technologies of BMW is available as an option, making the latest BMW X1 lineup more efficient than it was before.
In addition, customers will now have a choice from the new Sport and xLine models. Moreover, the SE and M Sport specifications get a boost in standard equipment, adding more value to the customer. The BMW X1's characteristic and crisp lines have been fortified with an all-inclusive lineup of stylistic improvements.
The X1 gets extended painted surfaces from the front, highlighting the X-shape trailing along the precision lines of the bonnet, passing through the kidney grille, and finally into the lower bumper. Adding to this dynamic look are the new headlamps. When fitted with the optional Xenon light technology, a white LED active eyebrow element and white LED corona rings offer an extra distinctive look to the X1. This appeal is further highlighted with the new fog lamp surrounds.
At the rear, there are larger painted portions that are similar to the frontal enhancements. There is also a more obvious underguard to strengthen the X1's off-road and sporty appeal. There are also new alloy wheel designs and exterior colors to complete the new appearance of the vehicle. Inside, the BMW X1's driver-focused cabin has undergone minor adjustments for the refurbished variant.
The interior now has a shallower angled centre console at the driver's side. The console is clad in a higher quality surface material. Also, the panel where the climate control and the sound system are located is now covered in high gloss black to complement the air vent surrounds.
BMW X1 goes far beyond utility, changing every single thing you know and expect from a sports car. Reinforced for high torsional stiffness, the X1’s design is lightweight and intelligent. Body strength was strengthened to protect passengers in the event of an accident.
Though the body is maximized, weight was not affected. The X1 has been awarded with a five-star NCAP rating because of its front, side, and curtain airbags on both seat rows.
Two models are available to choose from – the sDrive or the xDrive – both with differing steering and suspension systems. sDrive models feature a double-joint tie bar axle arrangement for the front suspension and electric power steering, while xDrive models feature a Double Joint thrust bar front suspension with hydraulic assistance for the steering. However, all X1 models feature a multi-link arrangement for its rear suspension.
All models in the range includes a Servotronic steering, BMW’s Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), incorporated with the Advanced Braking System (ABS), Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), Cornering Brake Control (CBC) and Dynamic Brake Control (DBC) functions.
