Niels van Roij Design has revealed a number of new renderings of the company’s upcoming shooting brake. Inspired by the Tesla Model S, this one-off model is scheduled to be unveiled this March 2018. In addition to having a stylish design, this model was developed to effortlessly match up with the Model S. Thus while the front fascia is indeed recognizable, many of the changes can be observed at the back of the A-pillar.

The most obvious change on this model would have to be the elongated roof. Its rear section meanwhile has been fitted with a tailgate-mounted spoiler. Further this model comes with new bodywork and it even has “kick-ups in the glass area.” It also uses chrome generously in its trim.

The company disclosed that it has been doing significant work on the shooting brake for quite some time. In fact according to Van Roij, the company did some design research even before it worked on the first sketches. Once the sketches were finished, the company then built on three various “design propositions” having a total of 16 different design themes. However the company knew it was also important to put emphasis on benchmarking this model versus other high-end one-off models and even high-end performance wagons.

It is clear that a number of customers who prefer a model bigger than a Model S would typically select the Model X. Van Roij however shared that the design remains to be the top reason worldwide when it comes to buying cars.

Based in London, Niels van Roij Design is a multi-disciplinary design studio that specializes in vehicle design. It has worked on different concept cars and even on London taxis. The company has also developed coach built cars and also put forth design strategies. Niels van Roij Design has won a number of awards like The Worshipful Company of Carmen Award, Age UK: Award for Inclusive Design, and even the Helen Hamlyn: Design Award for Creativity, among many others.

Developed and released by Tesla in June 2012, the Model S is a luxury five-door full-sized liftback that runs solely on electric power. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, or NHTSA, has awarded the Model S with a perfect 5.0 automobile safety rating. By 2016, Tesla gave the Model S an updated design in order to match closely with the brand’s Model X. As of October 2017, Tesla has offered three other versions which include the 75D, 100D and P100D.

The Model S became the world’s best-selling plug-in electric car for both 2015 and 2016. It is also the first electric car to lead the new car sales ranking in any country on a monthly basis. In November 2016, the Model S experienced a significant milestone with more than 150,000 units sold.
