Nissan has just revealed the 2014 GT-R Special Edition featuring the unique “Midnight Opal” exterior color. According to Nissan, the GT-R features a hand-painted Midnight Opal exterior and it is priced at 105,590 USD, a $6,000 USD increase over the GT-R Premium model M.S.R.P. Nissan will only make 100 units of this special edition worldwide and 50 of them will be available in the United States.
In addition, the 2014 Nissan GT-R Special Edition will feature a never before offered in the U.S. hyper-titanium colored coating on the RAYS forged lightweight wheels, a new dry carbon fiber rear spoiler similar to the one used on the GT-R Black and GT-R Track Editions as well as a gold-plated serialized plaque of authenticity located in the engine compartment.
The special edition GT-R is based on the GT-R Premium model and comes with the VR38DETT 3.8-liter twin turbo V6 rated at 545 hp and 463 lb-ft of torque and the exclusive Premium Midship platform that enables the use of the dynamic independent rear transaxle ATTESA E-TS all-wheel drive system.
Its interior features sculpted performance bucket seats and a cockpit-style instrument panel with a large center-mounted tachometer and multi-function display. Moreover, we find 11-speaker Bose sound system with speakers mounted in rigid aluminum die cast panels is standard.
The high-end acceleration of the new Nissan GT-R has been definitely enhanced with the response of the mid-range engine now sharper. This was made possible by integrating high-output injectors. What they do is to control the fuel injection in a more precise manner. As such, acceleration is maintained even at high rpms. On the turbocharger bypass, a relief valve has been added with openings developed specifically for it.
This prevents the forced injection pressure from rapidly decreasing and assisting in retaining acceleration when running at high rpms. Nissan put in the oil pan a baffle plate that has been specially designed. What happens is that when undergoing high-performance driving, the rotational friction present in the oil pan is lowered while the oil pressure is stabilized better.
Motul Competition Oil meanwhile is offering an engine oil option at the various Nissan dealers. This is mainly due to the requests made by GT-R customers who are usually at the tracks with their cars. In terms of handling, the GT-R has one that is glued-to-the-ground. It also delivers solid stability despite running at super high speeds. While being driven, Nissan made sure to accurately measure the roll center.
After that, the engineers at the brand lowered the center of gravity in order to be in line with the deflection of the vehicle’s tires and suspension bushings. Other changes were implemented as well like the specifications of the front stabilizer and the shock absorbers.
