Nissan unveiled its latest radical concept vehicle targeted towards young car enthusiasts at the 27th Sao Paulo International Motor Show, which started on October 24, 2012 and will end on November 4, 2012. The Nissan EXTREM concept car was especially designed by Nissan Design America (NDA) in San Diego, California, in collaboration with Brazilian designers, for Brazil.
The concept car was likewise built in the South American country. Shiro Nakamura, Senior Vice President and Chief Creative Officer, noted that Brazil is a country of great natural beauty and has a passionate, rich culture.
He hinted that the Nissan EXTREM concept car is designed to reflect Brazil’s beauty and culture on the streets. The Nissan EXTREM concept car is an amalgam of versatility and toughness, and is as agile as a compact 2+2, making it a new genre of urban compact sports car.
The launch of the Nissan EXTREM concept car underlines the carmaker’s commitment to Brazil, which is considered as one of the biggest new car markets in the world. Nissan’s Brazilian commitment is not surprising, as it has been posting huge sales in the country. Nissan holds around a two-percent market share in the country in 2011 after doubling its 2010 sales.
The Japanese carmaker is aiming to capture a five-percent share of the new car market in Brazil by 2016. Nissan\'s investment in Brazil includes an all-new manufacturing plant in Resende, Rio de Janeiro, which is set to commence production in the first half of 2014.
At its full capacity, the Resende plant could produce 200,000 units every year. Although the Nissan EXTREM is a concept vehicle with no immediate production plans, it is expected that some of its styling elements would be carried over into future Nissan products for Brazil and other markets.
