After one teaser, Mercedes-Benz officially unveiled the all-new GLE 450 AMG, its first AMG sports model powered by a V6 biturbo engine. According to the official press release, the GLE 450 AMG uses a 3.0-liter V6 biturbo engine that produces 367 hp (270 kW) and 520 Nm of torque from 1400 rpm.
Engine is bolted as standard to the 9G-Tronic nine-speed automatic transmission and power is delivered through the 4Matic permanent all-wheel drive. The Dynamic Select variable dynamic control system offers five transmission modes: Individual, Comfort, Slippery, Sport as well as Sport+ and the driver is able to select one using a rotary control located on the centre console.
In addition, the various displays found on the Comand screen and in the cockpit change according to the selected transmission mode. If on the standard model the torque distribution is 50:50 between the front and rear axles, on the GLE 450 AMG the drive is split in a ration of 40:60.
Moreover, the Sport and Sport+ transmission modes deliver superior longitudinal agility and lateral dynamics due to the perfect interplay between the modified driving dynamics control systems such as ASR, ESP with Curve Dynamic Assist, the electronic traction control system 4ETS and brake control system Adaptive Brake.
Active Curve System with active roll stabilization is also part of the special sports systems that are activated in the Sport or Sport+ modes. When it comes to design, the Mercedes-Benz GLE was created to be company’s BMW X6 rival. As a result, the GLE features a flowing side contour, while the rear end is quite catchy for those who want a special vehicle.
The GLE 450 AMG arrives with a special AMG bodystyling consisting of new front and rear aprons, a rear spoiler lip painted in the vehicle’s colour as well as 21-inch AMG 5-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels.
As an option, Mercedes-Benz offers 22-inch wheels and the Airmatic Package, which includes air suspension and infinitely variable adaptive damping system (ADS Plus). Inside, there is a flat-bottomed AMG sports steering wheel, new AMG sports seats, aluminum sports pedals as well as carbon fiber trim.
