Article by Christian A., on July 23, 2013

If yesterday it was just a rumor, today it became official: Bentley SUV has just received the green light for production. According to the official press release, the new SUV will go on sale in 2016 and will be made in Crewe.

As a result, over 1000 jobs will be created in the UK and over the next three years, Bentley will invest more than £800 million in its headquarters at Crewe and the development of new models. Regarding the design, the new Bentley SUV will be inspired by the EXP-9F Concept and will be a thoroughbred Bentley true to the brand hallmarks of luxury, performance, quality and craftsmanship. Bentley says that its new SUV will be the most powerful and most luxurious SUV in the market.

In the concept form, the Bentley SUV was powered by a 6.0-liter W12 engine that delivered around 600 hp and 400 Nm of torque. Still, the new Bentley SUV is expected to receive a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine or a hybrid drivetrain.

Dr Winterkorn said: “The Volkswagen Group believes in the UK as a competitive location for industrial production. Bentley fans all around the world are looking forward to the brand’s first SUV. Together we will make this new Bentley another true Bentley – powerful, exclusive and successful.”

Bentley’s Chairman and Chief Executive, Dr Wolfgang Schreiber, added: “This is excellent news for Bentley and for the UK. Bentley is increasingly successful and this new fourth model line will leverage the success of the global SUV market. The support of everyone involved with the Company has been fundamental to this decision, which will ensure sustainable growth for the company.”

Conceived, engineered, and crafted by hand in Crewe, the Bentayga's style is truly Bentley through and through. Sculpted with a refined, ephemeral finishing, it is a perfect balance of sportiness and conviction. From the four rounded LED headlights and broad matrix grille down to the distinct, powerful lines and brawny flanks, the Bentley genes are apparent in and out.

The Bentayga is replete with the world's most excellent vehicle interior, with unmatched places of accuracy. The details found in the metal, leather, and wood, including scrupulous tolerances through trim components, is the essence of contemporary English luxury. This perfection can only be achieved with thanks to the extraordinary skill and artistry of Bentley's team in Crewe.

A brand-new dual turbocharged 6.0-litre W12 engine is the new Bentayga’s heart. The powerful 12-cylinder component blends effectiveness and sophistication with supreme levels of strength and turn. With 608 PS (600 bhp / 447kW) and 900 Nm (663 lb. ft) that goes from 0 to 60 mph in 4.0 seconds (0 to 100 kmph in 4.1 seconds) and a 187-mph top speed (301 km/h), the Bentayga is the world's strongest and quickest SUV.
