Official: Mercedes-Benz reveals interior images and sketches of the SLS AMG

Mercedes-Benz has released lots of information and images of the car in the lead up to its intended unwrapping later this year. The latest SLS AMG, as the replacement to the SL Gullwing of the 50s, will also come with gullwing doors but new aluminum spaceframe that offers near perfect weight distribution of 48 to 52 percent.

The SLS will be powered by a modified variant of AMG's 6.2-liter V8 coupled with a brand new 7-speed dual-clutch transmission mounted on the rear axle. Maximum power yield is 571hp (420kW) and peak toque reaches 479lb-ft (560Nm).

Engine improvements consists of a new magnesium intake with eight separate velocity stacks, two electronically controlled throttle plates, a high flow exhaust and a new dry-sump lubrication system. The powerplant will be installed at the front but will be mounted behind the front axle for weight distribution improvement.

The final curb weight of the SLS is about 1,620kg, and acceleration rate is 0-100km/h in 3.8 seconds and a maximum speed over 315km/h. The new dual-clutch gearbox was developed by AMG and it claims swift fear changes with no loss of traction. The car comes with four driving modes which range from comfortable to totally sporty, together with a "RACESTART" function.

The car is equipped with equally advanced suspension with double wishbones and hub carriers from lightweight forged aluminum. Braking power is provided by carbon ceramic disks mounted on 19 inch alloys.

The company also shared the dimensions showing it to measures 4.65 meters long, 1.95 meters broad, and 1.25 meters high, with a 2.7 meter wheelbase. Preceding images previewed the car's appearance, exhibiting a vented hood and a new headlight design not found on preceding models.

New photos of the interior show a recognizable Mercedes steering wheel and a special dashboard with silver highlighted controls like that found on the SLR supercar. Retro styled air-vents, which appear like those used in the 70s by Mercedes-Benz, is another attractive feature.

A knob located on the center console called the COMAND is also like that used in other Mercedes models. There is an abundance of high grade materials in the interior including nappa leather, solid metal and an optional carbon fiber underscoring the exclusive nature of the car. The car will be a strict two-seater.
