Only Fiat dealers that meet targets will get to sell Alfa Romeo 4C in the US

The much-awaited Alfa Romeo 4C will first arrive in Fiat dealerships that have been meeting sales and customer service goals, according to Peter Grady, Chrysler Group vice president for network development and fleet. Chrysler disclosed in January that the two-seater 4C will arrive in dealerships by the end of 2013, when Alfa Romeo returns to the United States. Grady said that although Alfa Romeo will be paired with Fiat, Fiat dealerships are not guaranteed Alfa Romeo franchises.

During the National Automobile Dealers Association convention, Grady said that the 4C is the first vehicle that will arrive at the end of the calendar year at current Fiat dealers that are performing well.  Fiat SpA has allocated 1,000 Alfa Romeo 4Cs annually for the US from its yearly global output of 2,500.

Grady expects to see around 220 Fiat dealerships open in the US by Oct. 1, 2013, up from the current 202. He remarked that it would be flexible with Fiat dealers who want to sell Alfa Romeo but have yet to create attached service departments since they are operating in malls or similarly limited locations.

According to Grady, Chrysler has repeatedly told Fiat dealers that they must have attached service departments at their stores before they could sell Alfa Romeo vehicles. Changes in Fiat's product plan would see the 4C as the only Alfa Romeo model on sale in the US until 2015. Grady remarked that it would be unfair to compel dealerships to have attached service departments to sell Alfa Romeo based on this low-volume vehicle.

It is clear that when looking at the exterior of the 4C, the design was done by none other than Alfa Romeo Centro Stile. According to the brand, in developing the exterior of this model, the goal was to improve the style and at the same the technical qualities, not just in terms of aerodynamics but dynamism as well. As a result, each and every style solution that was implemented needed to be optimized in order to meet the main objective which is performance.

One of the things the brand did to make this possible was to treat the surfaces as if they were sculptures. In addition, the engineering team worked alongside the design team to bring out all of the advanced aerodynamic solutions out of the vehicle.

This partnership has resulted in a model that displays a pure athletic style made possible by combining technology with beauty. Not surprising given that such characteristic is expected from any sports car coming from Alfa Romeo, that is, function will always follow form. Then again, each structural component was designed with the goal of maximizing the vehicle’s dynamic efficiency.

This would also give the 4C that needed downforce to allow for maximum grip, especially when doing fast cornering. The rear volume of the vehicle is both enveloping and graceful and it not only embraces but also encloses the main feature of the model.

That is, the mechanics and the vehicle’s engine, which can be seen when looking through the window in the rear. The reason for this is that the brand made sure to have that marked musculature on top of the wheels which ensures that the rear section will get that power and strength.

One feature that makes this model distinct from the other offerings in the same segment is its compact dimensions. With 2 bucket seats, the 4C has overall below 400 cm, total width of 200 cm, and height at 118 cm. Wheelbase meanwhile measures at most 240 cm. Because of these dimensions, it helps put focus on the proportions of this supercar and at the same time highlight its agility.
