Many of you folks were expecting the 308 GTI at the 2014 Paris Motor Show but instead that hot hatch, Peugeot brought the 308 GT. Still, the French manufacturer is working on the 308 GTI and this new model will arrive with 250 or 270 hp. Plans for the new vehicle were revealed during a presentation of the company’s Peugeot Sport arm.
We expect the new 308 GTI to get the same 1.6-liter four-cylinder THP engine used by the RCZ R but also found on the 308 R Concept, developing up to 270 hp (199 kW) and 330 Nm (243 lb-ft) of torque.
The engine is capable to push the RCZ R from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.9 seconds, while offering a top speed of 155 mph or 250 km/h.
Peugeot is expected to unveil its all-new 308 GTI next year and just like it did with the 308 GT, we could also see a 308 GTI Wagon. When it comes to design, the 308 GTI will arrive with a sporty design, stiffer suspension, bigger wheels and larger brakes.
The sharp contrast between the Ultimate Red and Perla Nera Black colors resulted to a new combo finish dubbed by Peugeot as the Coupe Franche. This two-color finish perfectly suits the sharp character of the new 308 GTi by Peugeot Sport.
As it is, the Peugeot 308 features a sleek and clean design. Now, its high-end version – the Peugeot 308 GTi – comes with a simple design that still effectively conveys its sharp nature.
Compared to a typical 308, the new 308 GTi sits closer to the ground by 11 mm for a more aggressive stance, while riding on large 19-inch Carbone 19 wheels. The GTi 270 version has its wheels shod in Michelin Super Sport tires with light, reverse rims that show the 380 mm brake discs on the front. These discs feature solid red four-piston calipers and Peugeot Sport signature.
On the upper section of its front end, the new 308 GTi dons a black radiator grille with a horizontal checkered pattern as flanked by full LED headlamps. This styling is also adopted by the grille of the large air intake -- flowing into the supercharging air cooler – that is surrounded by dynamic-display LED indicators as well as a strip in red, or chrome with Ultimate Red. Two front spoilers are fitted just below the front bumper, allowing the new 308 GTi to achieve a SCx of just 0.69.
The new 308 GTi also comes with door sill extenders and expressive flanks as well as a gloss-black extractor that features two ample exhaust pipes on the rear end. The high-end version of the 308 sports theGTi signature on the front wings and the tailgate.
