Ralph Gilles wants a diesel-powered SRT model… at least in Europe!

Article by Christian A., on May 29, 2012

Wait, what? It appears that diesel engines are becoming more and more popular and the brand new SRT brand wants to offer what the world wants. After Mercedes-Benz’ AMG brand announced that it will offer high performance vehicles powered by diesel engines and after Bmw introduced the tri-turbocharged diesel powerplant, it’s time to see an American answer.

CEO, Ralph Gilles, pays attention to its fans on twitter and when asked about a possible SRT vehicle capable to take on the performance oriented diesels offered in Europe he said that: “I am a fan, We would cut our teeth in Europe first”.

This means that Europe will be the first to see a SRT diesel, but the model remains a mystery. Currently, the only possibility is the Jeep Grand Cherokee, which is available in International markets. A diesel-version of the Jeep Grand Cherokee might also be a solution as the SUV looks real hot. Still, this is only a possibility!

The strongest and fastest Jeep ever. Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 prides itself for having a muscular and aggressive look with functional design features, 20-inch alloy wheels, a race-inspired car interior and a lowered vehicle profile. Powered by the latest 6.4-liter HEMI V-8 engine providing 468 horsepower and 624 Nm of torque, the SRT model reaches a standard performance of 0-100 km/h in 5 seconds, a top speed of 257 km/h and stopping ability from 100-0 km/h in 35 m.

Latest Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 is the model with the best handling ever and boasts of a superb ride, all thanks to the innovative new active Adaptive damping suspension and brand new Selec-TrackTM traction control system. One of a kind braking is available because of the new SRT high-performance Brembo brakes coupled with our-wheel anti-lock brake system (ABS).

The SRT achieves incomparable levels of standard equipment in its class. These include the Uconnect Navigation infotainment and navigation system, Command-View dual-pane sunroof, Adaptive Cruise Control, world-class 825-watt audio surround-sound system from Harman Kardon, and a range of advanced safety features like Blind-Spot detection with Rear Cross-path detection and Forward Collision Warning.

The latest SRT model improves the Grand Cherokee family that in Europe delivers the following trim lines: Limited, Laredo, Overland and Overland Summit.

Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 puts together the elite functionality and styling, the on-and-off road capacity of the Jeep flagship SUV to the athletic look and advance performance features that are specifically tailored for Jeep by Chrysler Group LLC's Street and Racing Technology (SRT) team. The outcome: the strongest and fastest Jeep car ever manufactured. Thanks to its first-class braking, superb handling and ride, athletic stance and strong 6.4-liter V-8 HEMI engine, the SRT model improves the Grand Cherokee roster with an SUV that delivers a mix of standard performance and technologically innovative features.
