Renault-Nissan’s Simon Sproule will be communications chief at Tesla starting April

Tesla Motors Inc. is tapping Simon Sproule, as its vice president of communications and marketing effective next month. Sproule is currently director of communications for Renault-Nissan, which is considered as the biggest seller of battery-powered cars in the world. Liz Jarvis-Shean, a Tesla spokeswoman, confirmed the hiring but declined to provide details.

Sproule shift to Tesla’s ship coincides with Elon Musk’s push to transform Tesla from a startup company into a competitive global carmaker. Sproule has spent over 20 years at Nissan, Ford Motor Co. and its Jaguar, as well as in Microsoft Corp.

His experience working in the United States, United Kingdom, Japan and France as well as his knowledge of the global auto industry could be beneficial to Tesla, which boasts of the best-performing international automotive stock in the past two decades.

It recently suffered a hit New Jersey moved to hinder its direct-sales model in the state. The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission has voted unanimously to bar any form of direct automotive sales in the state.
