Lexus LFA Nurburgring, Camry Nascar Edition going under the hammer

Article by Anita Panait, on November 1, 2013

The RK Motors Collector Car Auction (RKMCCA) set to take place from October 31 to November 3 at the Charlotte Convention Center will feature on the hammer block 17 investment-grade vehicles, including an extremely rare Lexus LFA Nurburgring and a NASCAR Edition Toyota Camry donning a 600 hp engine.

RKMCCA will also auction off a quartet of rare Corvettes. The event will also be selling off hundreds of rare muscle cars, racer and European collector cars. The event will likewise feature a real-time, four-hour auction occasion that will be simulcast to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on November 2 at the 7-star Emirates Palace Hotel, which is just adjacent to the Abu Dhabi Formula One track.

RKMCCA will also showcase all 17 investment-grade vehicles at no-reserve, led by a 2012 Lexus LFA Nurburgring Edition, (Lot #3013) which is one of only 50 examples produced. The only model offered with a white exterior and Alcantara interior, the 2012 Lexus LFA Nurburgring Edition is powered by a 562hp 4.8-liter V10 engine.

Adding excitement to this supercar is the fact that it only registered 366 original miles on its odometer. Also available at the auction at no reserve is a 680hp 2010 NASCAR Edition Toyota Camry (Lot #3014), which is a collaboration between RK Motors and Toyota. This vehicle personifies the strong technical alliance between Toyota Racing Development (TRD) and RK Motors Design/Build.

Smooth, energetic and potent, the low-slung LFA car radiates supercar style from every bend and angle. In spite of its mould-breaking styling, the LFA can instantly be distinguished as a Lexus through adherence to the three vital qualities of the Lexus L-finesse design concept. Established profoundly in both traditional and present day Japanese culture, the L-finesse design rationale communicates three vital components: 'Incisive Simplicity' or purity; the 'Intriguing Elegance' of dramatic interest; and the Seamless Anticipation' of the experience and care of Japanese hospitality.

Directed by its front-mid engined design, elongated wheelbase and short overhangs, refined aerodynamics and snug, low-slung cabin, the LFA's smooth lines glide from roof to sill in a flawless convex to concave line. As well as its low weight and high potency, carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) likewise gave the LFA's creators a far higher level of design flexibility, giving them the choice to create shapes, bends and edges that would have been inconceivable with metal. For instance, the sharp trailing edges at the back of the LFA that guarantee the wind breaks neatly away from the body for superlative aerodynamics would not have been conceivable had traditional metal been utilized for the bodywork.

Like a rippling sheet of silk pulled rigid over the vehicle’s bare componentry, the vehicle’s styling is a visual rendition of its unrivalled performance. The LFA's sleek styling is likewise free of token fripperies, mirroring both the L-finesse way to deal with uncluttered design and the mechanical clarity that lies underneath its composite skin. Its various air-intakes and aerodynamic components, for instance, satisfy a functional role first and an aesthetic role second - a perfect case of form following function in the L-finesse idiom.

The LFA highlights state-of-the-art lighting systems: piercing, bi-Xenon high-intensity headlamps, complete with wiper-linked jet cleaners are supplemented by a trio of high visibility LED brake lights. What's more, reflecting LFA chief engineer Tanahashi-san's ethos of functionality first, the wing mirrors are created to give exceptional visibility as well as to funnel cool air over the vehicle’s shoulders into the rear air intakes.
