After few leaked photos, Skoda officially introduced today the 2014 Rapid Spaceback, a new car that promises to combine good practical qualities with the hatchback shape. Set to celebrate its premiere at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, the 2014 Rapid Spaceback will hit the market in October 2013.
Featuring a 2,602 millimeters wheelbase, the Rapid Spaceback has a 'C' and a 'D' column with a third side window and can be optionally fitted with a panoramic tinted glass roof which stretches from the windscreen to the rear window.
At the rear, the 2014 Skoda Rapid Spaceback features a roof spoiler and optional prolong rear window that constitutes an additional design accent. The interior features a sporty three-spoke steering wheel, stylish trim lines and fresh designs for the seat covers.
The rear of the Rapid Spaceback offers the largest legroom (64 millimeters) and the largest headroom (980 millimeters) in its segment. Likewise, the trunk volumes are among the best figures in the segment, measuring 415 liters or 1,380 liters when the rear bench is folded down.
Moreover, the 2014 Rapid Spaceback comes with the ice scraper in the fuel filler flap, holder for the safety vest under the driver seat, double-sided floor cover in the trunk or the waste bin in the side door, parking ticket holder, multimedia holder and cup holders in the front and rear or the parcel shelf.
On the European market, the 2014 Skoda Rapid Spaceback will be available with four petrol and two diesel engines. These advanced power plants put out between 55 and 90 kW, the 1.6 TDI/66 kW celebrating its premiere in the Rapid model series. The GreenLine version of the Rapid Spaceback needs only mere 3.8 l per 100 km, CO2 emissions amounting to 99 g/km.
Compared to the Rapid limousine, the Rapid Spaceback’s exterior is shorter by 18 cm. Despite that, the amount of space for the passenger in the Spaceback is almost the same as that of its elder sibling. Passengers sitting in the rear get to experience legroom measuring 64 mm, the largest in the segment. Headroom is the largest as well at 980 mm.
Meanwhile boot volume is also one of the best for its class measuring 415 liters and with the rear seat folded down, the space increases to 1,380 liters. Werner Eichhorn, who is the board member at Skoda responsible for sales and marketing, reveals that the new Spaceback is the latest choice in the compact car class that offers an excellent mix of design, functionality, and space.
That this model offers ample amount of space, he continues, is the best example of one of the key values at Skoda. He adds that similar to the usual Skoda model, the interior of the Spaceback brings to the segment new standards. In order to complement the already generous space, Skoda implemented a number of “Simply Clever” solutions for the Spaceback.
For example, the boot reveals a double cargo floor which allows the space to be divided to two horizontal levels, resulting in double utility. This Rapid Spaceback also has every practical feature that customers have long been familiar with in the Rapid. As such, there is the warning vest holder positioned under the driver seat. Then there is the ice scraper that has been placed on the lockable centrally-positioned fuel filler flap.
Other examples of such features are the waste bin placed on the side door and the double-sided floor cover on the vehicle’s boot. It does not stop there as the Rapid Spaceback also reveals a ticket holder and a parcel shelf which can be stowed at the back of the seats in the rear. A multi-media holder is also available with cup holders available not only on the front but on the rear as well.
