ŠKODA will start to receive orders in the UK for the all-new Superb Estate later this month. The full pricing list and specifications have also been released. The new model comes with the broadest range of engine, transmission and trim level options that have ever been available for ŠKODA’s flagship model. Deliveries in the UK will begin this September. Similar to the hatchback variant, the new Superb Estate is offered with seven engine options.
Some models will have the option of DSG automatic and 4x4 transmissions. The engine lineup is comprised of four TSI petrol and three TDI diesel units. Their power ranges from the 1.6 TDI’s 120PS to the new 2.0 TSI engine’s 280PS. There are five trim levels for this range: S, SE, SE Business, SE L Executive and Laurin & Klement. These all provide improved specification and equipment levels compared to their counterparts in the existing range.
Even with the higher specifications throughout the range, the new Superb is very affordable. In fact, the new 1.4 TSI S model costs just £19,840 – only £25 more expensive than the S model that’s on its way out. With a length of 4856mm and a width of 1,864mm, the new Superb is 23mm longer and 47mm wider than its predecessor. Meanwhile, the 2,841mm wheelbase is 80mm longer. This gives more space to passengers. The boot’s size is 660 litres (27 litres bigger).
If the rear seat backs are folded, it results to a space of 1,950 litres. Even when the new ŠKODA Superb Estate is bigger, weight-saving measures were made. Because of advanced MQB construction, the vehicle is lighter than the current model by up to 75 kg. Furthermore, the new Superb is filled with the latest in technology. It also comes with Simply Clever features.
The new Superb offers a higher level of safety and comfort with new features like a Virtual Pedal system that opens the boot by waving a foot under the rear bumper. It also has full integration of Apple and Android smartphones through SmartLink. Blind Spot Detection, third-generation Park Assist, Traffic Jam Assist, and Rear traffic alert are among its numerous features.
The Superb models all have alloy wheels, LED rear lights, DAB digital radio, air conditioning, Bluetooth and a touchscreen infotainment system. Standard equipment includes ESC and Multi-Collision brake. After a collision, the brake is automatically triggered, allowing the driver to avoid or lessen the impact of a second collision. Autonomous emergency braking system is standard. With a starting price of £22,390, the SE models come with 17-inch Helios alloy wheels, dual-zone air conditioning, rear parking sensors and cornering front fog lights.
SE models also get Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and SmartLink, which is a system that permits smartphone owners to show their phone’s display on the car’s infotainment screen. This allows for the safe use of several practical functions and apps such as maps and music streaming services while driving. All the SE models get two umbrellas, with one placed in each of the front doors. The automaker is targeting the well-equipped SE Business model at entrepreneurs who demand even more comfort and technology, such as Alcantara upholstery; front and rear parking sensors and stylish sunset glass from the B-pillar back.
The company’s Amundsen touchscreen satellite navigation system comes as standard and is accompanied with a 6.5-inch colour touchscreen. Powering the SE Business is either a 1.6-litre TDI 120PS or 2.0 TDI 150PS engine. Buyers can choose from a standard six-speed manual gearbox or optional DSG gearbox. It begins with a P11D price of £22,735 and 19% BIK.
The SE L Executive model features bi-xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights, leather upholstery with heated front seats and Columbus satellite navigation with 8-inch touchscreen as well as 18-inch Zenith alloy wheels, and a boot that is electrically operated. It is priced from £25,420. The new Laurin & Klement model is for those who demand the ultimate in refinement and technology.
The Superb L&K is built with a set of 18-inch Pegasus anthracite alloy wheels, tri-zone climate control, heated rear seats, 10-speaker CANTON sound system and piano black decorative inserts. It also comes with the following as standard: Blind Spot Detection, Lane Assist, Park Assist, KESSY keyless entry and start system, TV tuner and Virtual Pedal.
