Microcar maker smart has launched its latest advertising campaign via an innovative short film developed for and uploaded on the video-sharing site YouTube. The YouTube-exclusive film features the world’s first-ever tandem skateboard, characterising smart’s capability to make fun reach new heights.
Using the modern city of Barcelona as a backdrop, pro freestyle skateboarders Kilian Martin and Alfredo Urbon rode the unique skateboard and performed mind-blowing stunts, flips, turns and twists.
These two professional freestyle skaters managed to pull off a number of previously unseen maneuvers, which are choreographed to the music of “You Rascal You,” as performed by rock artist Hanni El Khatib.
The smart fortwo will make its appearance at the end sequence of the YouTube film, accompanied by tagline ‘fun fortwo,’ suggesting the connection between the Daimler brand and the skateboarders.
The YouTube film, set for release on the video-sharing site, will be complemented by behind-the-scenes footage and an interactive game for unlocking more skateboard stunts.
smart will air a 90-second version of the film in cinemas across the United Kingdon on September 28, 2012. David George, Marketing Director Passenger Cars, Mercedes-Benz UK, remarked that smart’s latest campaign reflects the fun, individual nature that sets the brand apart, with the message relayed through a skateboarding world first. smart produced the YouTube film in collaboration with Weapon7. The next generation of the smart fortwo – to be launched in autumn 2010 – boasts of a new exterior, a fresh interior and a more eco-friendly lineup of engines.
As for the exterior, the color palette for the new smart fortwo now includes a matt finish – matt light green. A new color finish will also be available, light blue metallic that will replace the blue metallic exterior paint. This means, that the exterior palette now includes seven colors, instead of the previous six finishes only. Customers may also have the tridion safety cell finished in white while the door mirror surrounds and the radiator grille could also be painted in white.
These combination possibilities and modern colour constellations give the smart fortwo a completely new face. In addition, the cabrio soft top is available in two new colors, red and blue. smart is also offering new LED daytime driving lights as well as new alloy wheels for the new fortwo. Customers may also opt to have the front spoiler, the rear apron and side skirts be finished in body color. In the future, the fuel filler cap could also be finished in body color.
Inside, the new smart fortwo is fitted with a new cockpit design as well as new fabrics and colors. It is also provided with the latest in communication and entertainment systems, adding to the convenience and comfort of its occupants.
As for the power sources, an array of modern and more refined petrol engines is available. Engines with power outputs of 45 kW and 52 kW are rated to emit carbon dioxide levels of less than 100 grams per kilometer, setting a new benchmark. With these new innovations, the next-gen smart fortwo is more appealing not only to customers but also to the environment.
To celebrate the next generation of the fortwo, smart is building a limited-edition model with high-class equipment.
According to Marc Langenbrinck, Managing Director for smart, the brand continues to make its models better and more desirable, adding that the new generation smart fortwo isn’t only attractive and stylish but is also of higher quality, more comfortable and more functional. Langenbrinck noted that smart drivers usually think unconventionally and look for alternatives, adding that the new generation smart fortwo meets the requirements of these customers.
