SsangYong to present Korando Sports utility pick-up in the UK in autumn

Article by Anita Panait, on August 17, 2012

SsangYong Motor UK’s new Korando Sports utility pick-up will have its introduction this autumn, a year after it was unveiled as the SUT-1 (sport utility) concept at international motor shows in 2011 and months after its production version was displayed at the Geneva Motor show in March. Korando Sports is marketed as a good blend of a passenger car, a double cab and commercial pick-up.

The utility pick-up features the suspension, engine and cabin finesse of a passenger car; the silhouette, rooming and seating for five of a double cab; and the working ability of a commercial pick-up. The new Korando Sports is targeted towards consumers looking for a working vehicle that impresses the practicality of four-wheel drive and the towing capability to haul up to 2.3 tonnes.

Korando Sports is perfect for any activity, whether as a trailer, a workhorse or even as a family car. According to SsangYong Motors, the new Korando Sports draws on the carmaker’s growing reputation for producing extremely competent off-road vehicles.

The carmaker described the new Korando Sports to be an “honest, reliable and highly capable vehicle” that’s “extremely well equipped,” and could outclass expensive rivals. The Korando Sports is powered by a 2-litre e-XDi active diesel engine that could provide up to 155PS of power and 360Nm of torque between 1,500rpm and 2,800rpm.

The lively exterior has been designed to express SsangYong's contemporary and effective new form. In the front, it conveys an energetic but classy look, with a mesh grille, trapezoid bumper, and tasteful black bevelled headlights providing a premium accent. Seen in profile, the crisp waist line runs along to the rear, highlighting a smooth, athletic stance, and, from the back, the broad glass expanse provides outstanding rear visibility.

Creature comforts

The roomy interior has a bright and open atmosphere due to the big windows in the front, sides, and rear. But there is also a refined smartness from the careful blend of metallic and black finishes and from the LED instrument cluster as well.

As well as having plenty of space for five adults and rear seats that can recline to 29 degrees, the temperature controls and Bluetooth features guarantee convenience along with comfort.

This range has two models available. While the SX is already equipped comprehensively, the EX provides additional luxurious touches of leather upholstery, seat warmers, powered driver's seat, unique 18-inch alloy wheels, electronically adjustable and folding heated door mirrors, and sensors for rear parking. A 6-speed cruise control automatic is also an available option.

Practicality

Each and every SsangYong has, at its core, practicality as a major attraction. A broad, flattened rear deck offers a 2.04 sqm load area as well as a deck liner with anchored points. A rigid hard top is an available option that can protect your load against weather and offer added security to the load and comes with a rear window that is hinged to close behind the tailgate to allow the vehicle’s central lock system to secure and protect the contents.
