Subaru announces the 2015 WRX STI Launch Edition

Subaru unveiled the all-new 2015 WRX STI earlier this week at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show and in order to celebrate this event the Japanese carmaker announced that it be offering the WRX STI Launch Edition. The new special edition was designed for loyalists who made the STI a high-performance icon.

The new special edition of the STI will see a limited number of 1,000 units in North America and each of them will be painted WR Blue Pearl and feature the well-known gold-painted 18-inch BBS alloy wheels, the iconic color combination long associated with Subaru competition cars.

The wheels are wrapped in 245/40R18 summer performance tires. Inside, the STI Launch Edition but also the standard WRX STI model will be equipped with special interior colors and trim and will get a standard STI Short-Throw Shifter for the 6-speed manual transmission.

Keyless Access & Start system will be offered as standard on the STI Launch Edition, while the WRX STI Premium and Limited models will get it as an option. Power will come from the new 2.5-liter turbocharged BOXER engine rated at 305 hp. For those who don’t know, the 2015 Subaru WRX STI is built on a stiffer chassis for greater handling agility and precision.

Also new for the WRX STI is the Active Torque Vectoring, which joins the proven advanced dynamic handling technologies that includes Multi-Mode Driver Controlled Center Differential (DCCD) Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, Multi-Mode Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC), SI-DRIVE powertrain control system and a Brembo Performance Brake System with Super Sport ABS.

The interior of the car will come with the new flat-bottom steering wheel and whiplash-reducing performance-design front seats with height and tilt-adjustable head restraints.

Moreover, the STI Launch Edition is distinguished by an exclusive cabin design treatment as it comes with leather bolsters for the Alcantara-covered seats that are blue and black with black stitching rather than the red and black with red stitching in other STI models.

Furthermore, the door trim panels are blue leather with black stitching, and the Alcantara-covered center console storage box lid features black stitching.

Blue trim accents the carpeted floor mats that carry the STI logo. Subaru says that the 2015 WRX STI is the best-equipped version ever and standard features include LED low-beam headlights, dual-zone automatic climate control, the All-Weather Package (dual-mode heated front seats, heated exterior mirrors and windshield wiper de-icer) and a tilt/telescoping steering wheel with switches for audio and Bluetooth control.
