Subaru debuts the high-performance WRX STI in the UK

Article by Christian A., on August 26, 2012

With a price tag of £26,995, the high-performance WRX STI model from Subaru UK is an offer too good to resist. This offer is made just in time for the September new registration rush. The WRX STI is one of the performance car bargains presently offered in the UK. With this further finance offer, the STI could be financed at less than £300 a month.

The STI will also be getting an additional engine upgrade so that buyers can build the WRX STI 340R, a new high-performance All-Wheel Drive flagship.

The new 340R power upgrade, which costs £1,599, is offered together with the 320R (with 320 ps and 450 Nm) which was presented to the market in 2011. The car’s warranty will be unaffected by the retroactive application of the 340R and 320R power upgrades.

WRX STI 340R delivers 340 ps and 490 Nm of torque, which represent significant increases of 40 ps and 83 Nm when compared to the standard WRX STI. This would make the 340R to be one of the quickest road-going point-to-point cars.

340R power upgrade has various ECU settings to enable the 2.5-litre horizontally-opposed, four-cylinder Boxer engine to generate more power while airflow has enhanced as a result of a new exhaust system, which offers an exciting soundtrack as well as the famous Subaru burble.

The 340R can sprint from zero to 60mph in only 4.7 seconds, which represents an improvement of 0.5 seconds when compared to the standard WRX STI.

Because of the improved torque, it gets stronger in-gear acceleration. Just like the other WRX STI models, the 340R comes with Subaru’s advanced All-Wheel Drive technology, Torsen rear differential, fully-independent front and rear suspension and the practicality of a four-door saloon.

2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI continues to be the ultimate-performance Subaru equipped with high-boost 305-hp turbocharged/intercooled four-cylinder Boxer engine and a six-speed manual transmission.

STI features as well a Multi-Mode Driver Controlled Center Differential (DCCD) version of a Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive comprising three “Auto” modes, and a manual mode with locking settings containing six driver-selectable differentials.

This new model is set with advanced and superior dynamic control systems such as the Multi-Mode Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) stability and a standard traction control system featuring track performance-optimized mode, Subaru Intelligent Drive (SI-DRIVE) technology which allows drivers to customize the driving characteristics from “Intelligent,” “Sport” to “Sport Sharp,” using only the rotary dial in the center console.

With models arriving in late summer 2010, the 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI will be market-ready in no time.

SPACIOUS, SPORTY AND VERSATILE INTERIOR

To emphasize its sporty design, the STI is finished in silver and black interior. The air bag cover, steering wheel switches and trim panels as well are in dark cast metallic.

The three-spoke steering wheel is telescopic and has a standard tilt with leather-wrapped design embossed with the trademark STI logo. It also has control switches for hands-free phone function with a Bluetooth-compatible device.
