Back in early 90s, the Subaru SVX coupe made quite a buzz it brilliant design made by Giorgetto Giugiaro. According to a source close to Subaru, the SVX is planning a big comeback, this time powered by a six-cylinder boxer hybrid system.
Comparing it with the old model, the new SVX will be larger as it will be headed to the United States dealer who are asking for a high-performance coupe in order to lift the brand image but also attract new customers to the brand.
Subaru will use the new Subaru Global Platform (SGP) for the new SVX, the same that will be used on the new Tribeca in 2016. Just like the original SVX, the new interpretation of the model will be all-wheel drive and this means great handling.
Subaru is working on a new 3.3-liter flat six engine with direct injection, mated to a powerful Lexus plug-in hybrid unit.
The hybrid system will deliver a total output of around 375 hp (280 kW). Subaru’s new SVX is expected to arrive in the US showrooms in 2017 and will be built at company’s Indiana Automotive plant located in the United States. [source: motoring.com.au]
