Survey says Mazda CX-5 is 5th among top 100 UK cars

Article by Anita Panait, on May 1, 2013

Mazda CX-5 SUV crossover is fifth among the best 100 vehicles in the United Kingdom, according to the latest customer satisfaction survey. The Mazda CX-5 placed in the top 50 percent in all categories in the Auto Express Driver Power Survey, considered as the biggest and most comprehensive poll of car owners in the UK, and scored an overall score of 89.63%.

The CX-5 received its highest rankings for in-car technology, ease of driving and ride quality categories. Likewise, the Mazda brand is now the 4th best brand in the UK, according to the survey, jumping from 12th in 2012.

Mazda’s surge to the 4th position is testament to its sixth-generation cars, with the Mazda CX-5 being considered as the best vehicle in the SUV class. The crossover received impressive scores for ‘practicality’ and ‘ease of driving’ categories. The two-seater Mazda MX5 sportscar grabbed a high score for ‘handling’, while the Mazda3 scored impressively in the ‘practicality’ category.

Auto Express Driver Power Survey covered around 46,000 car owners as well as over 30 carmakers, over 200 models and some 17,000 cars three years old or under. For this year’s survey, Mazda had five models in the top 100, up from two in 2012. Joining the Mazda CX-5 in the top 100 are the Mazda MX-5, Mazda6, Mazda3 and Mazda2.

Brett Hague, Mazda UK’s Franchise and Network Development Manager remarked that the two models they launched last fiscal year -- the Mazda CX-5 and all-new Mazda6 -- both performed very strongly, showing how their “SKYACTIV technology platform is resonating with customers.”

First revealed back in 2012, Mazda’s CX-5 is the first production model to make use of the KODO design language. That said it has features that are exclusive to the KODO. This includes a stance that leans more forward with a front nose that displays more presence. The A-pillars positioned in a rearward are present as well and even has a compact cabin. Further, the design of the exterior has a sharper sense as it relates to dynamism and vitality.

Overall, this SUV has a style that is unlike any other. Mazda said that the improvements done for this version helped polish what were already unique qualities, especially in the search for higher quality. The front grille for example was evolved in a manner to make the design tighter and bolder, particularly the use of horizontal fins in metallic gray. Meanwhile the headlamps have that eye-like design which raises the vitality of this model to a different level.

Making this possible is an interior layout that has been redesigned with the addition of the LED lighting signature, with the latter being offered as an option under the Technology Package. On the rear section, the combination lamps also make use of LED lighting signature, which like its counterpart in the front, is also made available with the Technology Package.

Meanwhile, the aluminum 19-wheels utilize a new design and has machining that emphasizes its three-dimensional feel. New colors will be offered for the exterior. Overall, there will be a total of nine colors which include Titanium Flash Mica and Sonic Silver Metallic, both of which have been newly developed and applied for the first time to the Mazda3.

The newly designed CX-5 shows an advanced exterior design which displays the evolution of the brand. It takes the powerful look and presence, and even quality, of this crossover SUV to new levels.
