Audi has chosen telecommunications specialist T-Mobile to be the wireless carrier for Connect, its new infotainment system. This April, the Audi Connect will be launched on the new A7. This system has everything from Google Earth, Google Local Search, to Sirius Traffic information. T-Mobile will provide a SIM card to Audi’s vehicles, bridging the missing link between T-Mobile’s network and the Audi MMI Navigation Plus system.
The SIMs come with the car, so the owner may subscribe to the Connect services anytime. Audi Connect is available with a six-month complimentary trial period.
Johan de Nysschen, president, Audi of America, said that the launch of Audi Connect is part of a foundational strategy to make Audi the leader in “first-to-market, cutting-edge connected services.”
He also said that he anticipates a productive relationship with T-Mobile USA as Audi enables motorists and passengers to access the most current information and boost their enjoyment of their Audi vehicle.
Audi entered the infotainment market sometime ago but it is relying on the new system to open doors and to improve the experiences of the car owners. Connect will soon be deployed in more vehicles. The A7 is the first to get the system and the A8, A6 and the Q7 will get it next.
The Audi Connect service utilises the super high tech Audi MMI Navigation Plus system which works with T-Mobile’s advanced vast network. A special damage-resistant T-Mobile SIM card is inserted to the system. These SIM cards are provided with the vehicle so that customers can easily register for an appropriate plan any time they want from the time of purchase, within their special six-month trial period or after the end of this trial.
Audi selected T-Mobile as a partner due to the network’s stability, consistency, wide coverage and excellent customer service, as well as its pioneering involvement in automotive telematics.
Johan de Nysschen, President of Audi America says that Audi Connect was introduced as part of an initiative for their company to lead with the latest innovations and to be the first in the market to offer these connectivity services. He also said that the company seeks to have a “productive relationship” with T-Mobile USA amid its efforts for customers and passengers to be able to maximize their enjoyment in using the vehicle and to get the latest information.
John Horn, National Director of M2M at T-Mobile USA stated that the company’s strong coverage nationwide and the advantages offered by their specialised SIM cards allow them to innovate in a way that their customers can take advantage of their services anywhere. He explained that the Audi Connect service is a grand example of how to enhance the owner’s experience with wireless connectivity.
